Mac Mini won't shut down.

Hello, I need help urgently. I had problems shuting down for about 2 months now. When shuting down, my Mac didnt go further than a bluescreen with the spinningwheel. I decided to Upgrade to Lion, hoping that would fix my problem. Lion works perfectly but the mac still doesnt shut down. I have to shut it down manually, and that hurts, because it can't be good for my Mac. Do you know what is wrong? I tried everything, I pressen alt-cmd-r-p when starting, shift when starting, cmd-v when starting, i tried the options under disc-utilities. Only the cmd-v worked, but it shut down correctly once, and then never again. I kin of have the feeling that iTunes is causing the problem, but I'm not sure, it could be anything. If you have any further ideas, please help. Thank You

I have the same problem on a MacBook Pro and a MacMini.

The machine fails to shutdown completely. You just get the spinning wheel. I have left my mac mini shutting down in the evening and come back to it in the morning and it is still showing the spinning wheel on the grey screen.

I do not have kaspersky installed but do have sophos installed.

I also have Growl 1.2.2 and Fitbit 1.8.2 beta 5 installed (which uses Growl)

FYI... I have a fitbit base station as well, and I'm pretty sure it is the reason my MacPro won't shut down properly as well. There is a Lion update, but it is beta with no way to download the previous driver, so we're stuck at the moment.

I've sent a message to the Fitbit folks, but in their usual fashion, they have not replied.

The one thing you can do is to unplug the USB cable to your Fitbit station before trying to shutdown or restart.

I have the same issue but have found unplugging the usb cable makes no difference. I believe it's something to do with the face that the fitbit daemon doesn't die on shutdown. It seems to be the only other process running. The only was around it seems to be by waiting until you think there's no disk activity and pressing and holding the power button.

I'm currently looking for something opensource to run instead, at least then I can have a go at fixing the bugs - fitbit have no interest in solving the issue.

*edit* Found http://www.openyou.org/ which seems to be a good start.

It's a Fitbit bug, and they acknowledge the problem. Here's their message:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm sorry for the delay in connecting with you and about the problem you're experiencing with syncing your Fitbit with your Mac.
Our engineers have identified the problem and have come-up with a short-term fix. Please see below ---
1. Open the Terminal application
2. Type this in: sudo defaults write /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.fitbit.fitbitd ExitTimeOut 5
3. Shut down the computer.
Our engineers are working on a long term solution and I will be sending you an update as soon as I hear back from them.
I'm hoping this works.
I bought a FitBit and installed its software about six weeks ago. I'm not sure when I first noticed that my machine was not shutting down properly. My machine is running 24/7. I only reboot it once a week or so.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I got serious about figuring out what was causing my shutdown hang/stall. I started by doing a clean install of lion on an external hard drive. I restarted/shutdown the machine several times to ensure that the problem was not present. This confirmed to me that this was a software problem not a hardware problem.
Then I started installing third party software one at a time, restarting to check for the problem after each install. Cutting to the chase...the problem appeared after installing the FitBit software/driver. Also, the problem went away when I UNinstalled the FitBit software. I also found that if I detached the dock from USB
I have talked to FitBit tech support. They acknowledge the problem and say the their engineers are working on a solution. For me, I have reluctantly returned my FitBit for a refund. I like the device. I was using it everyday. But if it breaks my Mac....
I still think that Mac OS X 10.7.2 broke something. I experienced another shutdown stall after uninstalling the FitBit software. It occurred when Handbrake choked while attempting to transcode an EyeTV recording.
Mac Mini won't shut down.
