Media Keys on keyboard not working with iTunes 10.4.0.80

After updating to iTunes 10.4.0.80 I have lost all control via the media keys (ie: play/pause; next; previous) on the keyboard whether or not iTunes is the focused application.

Specifics: Windows XP Pro SP3; Logitech MK710 wireless desktop (keyboard & mouse); SetPoint V6.30.41 - driver v5.30.67

Contacted Logitech first and their saying it's an iTunes issue. Believable since the media keys work with other player applications.

This is not life shaking but it would be very nice to have the functionality back again. Anybody have any thoughts?

kenblu24 - no problem before the update. Everything was working fine before the 10.4.0.80 upgrade - all the media key functioned as they should. Unfortunately - for me - I've been just letting the update software do the update so I don't have a previous version that I can go back to that isn't about a year or so out of date. I did try reinstalling both Setpoint and iTunes 10.4.0.80 but I still have the same problem. And, iTunes is set as the defualt media player.

UPDATE: Our youngest daughter is having the problem as well. However, her media keys work while iTunes is the focused application (either full window or mini-player). If the window doesn't have focus then the keys don't work. She is using Windows 7 Pro and this behavior started with the upgrade to iTunes 10.4.0.80. I've told our other kids to wait on updating their iTunes.

Also, I've tried using HKTunes and mmkeys.dll to see if that would patch (band-aid) the problem. Neither one worked for me.

I'm having the problem as well. Keys work fine when Itunes is in focus, but not when it's not. Worked fine before. I've always had to use mmkeys.dll since Itunes doesn't do well at recognizing the media keys in the first place, but up until the latest version the plugin worked. I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise. I've contacted support 4 times with 0 responses (they say they'll get back to you within 24 hours, and 3 of them were over 5 days ago).

This definitely seems to be an itunes issue. Here is another place where the same issue has cropped up. The fix seems to be downgrading back to 10.3. Someone on the forum below linked to a site giving the step by step of downgrading back to 10.3

Apple? Hello? Is anyone there? I've still heard nothing from them on this issue, while I have heard back on other issues, so clearly they're stumped. I know, push an update that undoes whatever your last update broke! It cannot be that difficult. This really bad support/lack of any response is making me consider other options. Itunes is the only piece of the Apple Pie that I use, and if there was a better (or relatively close to as good) piece of software out there where media keys actually worked and there was just as good of playlist management, I would use it. Anyone know of such a piece of software?

I used to have the old Logitech illuminated keyboard and I thought it was because of logitech so I bought a new keyboard. (There were several issues with my old keyboard anyways) I now have the Logitech k360 and the same issue popped up. The play/pause backwards and forwards keys do not work. However on a side-note the FN hotkey to open iTunes does work. I have reinstalled drivers, software, itunes, did some other stuff and they didn't work. It's not on logitech's end.

I just reinstalled to 10.3.1 and now I'm getting a message when I try to run the program saying "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a new version of iTunes." I'm just going to uninstall and reinstall the latest version for the 3rd time now and hope Apple releases an update which fixes this compatibility issue.

I'm running Windows vista 64.

i am sure you have you media saved on your ipod/phone

download SharePod (Freeware - here)

run it (i am sure you know how...)

when it asks for the folder version, choose the left one in the upper row (or just the first one, that is already chose by default with a red border)

let it do its stuff and open itunes.

go to music and let it search for aac and mp3 files... (be sure you copied them to the itunes music folder with SharePod)

works fine.

if anything goes wrong, be sure you didnt delet the folder 'old library versions'
