Yes, if you car has an aux port for usb. The easiest way to do it is to have an aux port with a headphone jack that conects to your shuffle and car receiver.
Thanks for your reply. I did buy a 3.5mm Audio and USB Dock Cable and put one end in the ipod, the other in the usb port, but it didn't work. From looking at these forums it seems that although most ipods would work this way, the shuffle doesn't. Is that true?
I usually connect my iPod shuffle (3rd gen) using the same USB cable that came with it. My car reconises it as a USB flash drive, you will have a hard time searching for a song but it plays nicely.
Perhaps you haven't enabled the disk use on your iPod. You can change this option using iTunes.

Just select your device on the left panel on iTunes.
First thing you'll see will be the general information of your iPod (Name, Serial number, etc.). Below that you will find the Options section. In there, look for the Enable disk use option and check it. Then just select Apply on the button.
