Thanks a lot! My CanoScan 8400F is back on track!

Thank you for this solution! My 8400f is now back up and running under Lion. Works perfectly! So glad I found this!

Do you know of any comparable solution that will get a Canonscan 9950F working under Lion?

I recently became aware of Image Capture, which I believe is a new application that's included with Lion (in your Applications Folder). It works for me -- I had no idea it was there until someone on another forum mentioned it.

Image Capture isn't new; it has been around at least since 2001 and OS X 10.1

Unfortunately, Image Capture's image is inferior to what the Canon software (under Snow Leopard) gives. And Image Capture doesn't allow you to do what Canon's Canoscan Toolbox did: with one or two clicks, have your choice of:
- Scan to pdf
- Copy to printer
- Save in one of various image formats
- Scan into your selection of programs.
- Do OCR on the image.
It's especially the simplicity of copy-to-printer that I'll miss. With it, you have essentially a (albeit slow) copy machine.

I'm pretty bummed that everyone is so happy because it seems that the canon website has been changed. I don't see any download buttons for driver/software for ANY of the flatbed scanner models. Very frustrating. At the bottom (in small print) of the 4400f page it says "Latest Mac OSX Leopard driver available for download under the "Drivers & Downloads tab" But there doesn't seem to be such a tab. And that still isn't lion. Oh, big grumble grump. The links are like a vicious cycle of nothing!!!

You might want to go back and look again. I just followed the link in Rabrack's post and clicked on the icon for the 4400F. On the page that opens, below the image of the scanner, there is a 3-columned set of options. Drivers and software is in the first column. Click that. Under Choose operating system, click on the drop down menu and choose OS 10.7 (as noted in Rabrack's instructions). Follow on from there.
Also...you mentioned Leopard in your post. These instructions are actually for Lion users trying to use this scanner. Are you running Leopard or Lion? (At any rate, both Leopard and Lion are available in that list.)

And inbetween Leopard and Lion was Snow Leopard.

True...but it didn't seem relevant to this conversation, so I didn't mention it. (For the record, Jaguar, Panther and Tiger are there as well.)

Yes but very few went from 10.5 to 10.7 Most went to 10.6 then Lion. Make sure you name your OSs properly and don't confuse some poor souls here.

I'm not sure what your point is. I was merely pointing out to Anna, who stated something about Leopard in her post, that the instructions in this thread were intended for Lion users. I then stated that both OSs were there. You then interjected the mention of Snow Leopard. To be thorough, I pointed out that, yes, a number of OSs are available there. So what OS did I improperly name?

Thanks for posting this! It was the best clue for getting my MP560 to print. That toolbox software did the trick; thanks for saving my printer!

Thank you so much!!! I don't know why the website looked different today. I'm blaming it on the solar flare.
BTW- I was working with Lion.
