I'm having an issue with Netflix video streaming changing the aspect ratio from wide format to standard within 30 seconds into the video. Doesn't happen on the sony PS3, macbook air, ipad2. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Does it happen during multiple shows or just this one? When you tried on other devices, did you check the same the same content? What is the show in this screenshot? If I have access I can test. Doubt it's the ATV but let's see.
It happens to multiple shows and yes I watch the same episode on all the device. The show is "Oh! Edo Rocket" Anime. Thanks!
Don;t have access to that title as i'm in Canada and the content differs. Is the PS3 connected to the same TV? Have you tried looking at the settings on your set?
Yep, same TV. I have two ATV's and I tried both on the same tv and same result.
Very odd. Honestly, I watch a lot on Netflix and not once have I encountered this. Maybe try calling their support? Apple too.
Tried ATV's onto another TV and same results. So its either Netflix on ATV or ATV or Netflix.
Doubt it's the ATV, but to test that try other things like Youtube/Podcasts/Trailers. What aspect ratio is your TV set at?
This same thing is happening to me - AppleTV switches to 4:3 ratio 30 seconds into a movie. Then, when I try to start the video from the beginning, it then starts incorrectly (with black bars on the side and a compressed picture). I have the ATV2 connected to a brand new Samsung 32" LCD in my bedroom. This only happens when Netflix is playing on the ATV, and it happens even if I hook it up to one of my other televisions. This leads me to believe that the problem is with the ATV, not my television. The strange thing is that it was working fine for a couple of days, and then suddenly started doing this.
Test other content, not just Netflix, and it could still be something on Netflix's end. This is the first I've heard of anything like this..if it was ATV I think there would be a lot posting about it, but it's hard to say.
It only happens when Netflix and AppleTV work in conjunction with each other. The Netflix content is perfectly fine on other devices, and the AppleTV does fine with other content. So something about the way Netflix and AppleTV interface with each other causes the problem. I've experimented with all of my TV aspect ratios to no avail.
Could be, and as the posts in this thread are the first i've heard of it you may be unlikely to see a lot of others posting suggestions/similar experiences. As I say, I watch a lot of Netflix on this device and have for around 10 months. Haven't seen the issue. The best thing may be to call support for both and try to troubleshoot this situation.
Mine does that to. After restarting or resetting the AT2 its completely locked up with the menu screen. Can't even scroll left or right to choose. Can't reset either. Tried unplugging power and HDMI cable and still same locked up screen. POS. I just bought this, now I'll have to drive all the way back to Apple Store and get a replacement. It's not even a month old and its already frozen and useless.
Have you tried restoring through iTunes?
No. When I got it, it had the latest firmware. No updates needed. I'm not dealing with a temporary fix. I'm returning it for an exchange.
I wasn't referring to an update, you mentioned the device locking up so that's why I suggested it..not as a temp fix. But you're free to exchange it
