I have changed my Apple ID in the setting area for the Apple Store but when I am prompted for my password when downloading from the store it uses the old Apple ID. How to I get rid of the old Apple ID?
Also when I try to "verify" my new Apple ID it tells me that there is already another apple ID for that email --- yes an old one that now Apple does not recognize.... yikes ??

This does not work for me. This happens on both my iPod touchn and my iPhone4. Whenever I have
to update an older app I am presented with the old style ID for which I no longer know the password.
I am logged in with a new style password but the Phone/Pod insists on the old ID.
All apps, all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps. You cannot transfer apps from one iTunes account to another or merge accounts.
In order to install app updates, you must use the iTunes account that was used to download the apps.
