Q: After Lion upgrade, my addressbook does not work++

since upgrade, my address book is there with all contacts, as before, but i can neither modify existing contacts nor add new contacts. menu items are grey and there is no edit button in lower corner of card as i have read there should be. of course, sync with google contacts does not work either. effectly, address book can make no modifications, but i can use search.

i posted a query 2 days ago and have received 0 replies.

i am now going to proceed to reinstalling lion to see if that works. this will be a new experience since there is no longer a disk, but you have to restart the mac holding the cmd+R keys and reload from app store.

it is strange getting no answers from anyone. where are the people from apple hiding out?

Give this a shot.

If you are syncing your contacts with something, disable that for now.

Archive your Address book by going to File menu, Export, Address book Archive.

Close Address Book.

Go to the Finder and while holding down the Option key, select Library from the Go menu.

Navigate into Application Support/AddressBook.

Delete addressbook.abcddb.

Open Address Book and see how it works

Turn Syncing back on if applicable.

The file you deleted is a database that indexes the raw data to make display, search, etc faster. However, it does seem to get corrupted with updates.

The people from Apple are hiding out in Cupertino. But that is irrelevant as they don't frequent these forums. This is a User to User forum. The only Apple employees are the nice moderators that keep the site running and enforce the terms of use.

As for us users, some of us actually have lives (says the guy responding to you on a Friday night).

I had the same problem as mkmcfr. After days of talking to the Apple engineers and their senior advisors etc... Nobody could figure out how to get it working again. Thanks alot Barney, you're a godsend.
