Since Lion upgrade I can no longer find my sony ereader as a device on my sony e reader software. Any ideas or help is appreciated.
The problem is that the Sony eReader needs a kernel extension and unfortunately this kernel extension exists only as a 32Bits module. Lion boots in 64 Bits mode. You will need to wait for sony to build a compatible software for Lion. Try to contact Sony support.

Do you know if "Adobe Digital Editions" has the same problem that the Sony eReader?
I have an extensive collections of eBooks that I'm not longer able to access, DMR really is an inconvenience!

As far as I can see, "Adobe Digital Editions" has the same problem. Neither Sony`s Reader nor ADE recognizes my new PSR-350. Calibre works - but only with DRM-free files. So I will take the Sony back tomorrow :-(
BTW - there is a workaround that might be inconvenient but helpful: reboot your Mac and hold the keys "2" and "3" while it boots. Lion will start in 32bit-mode and Sony's reader app works.
Thanks for the tip on the '3-2' keys. I was having the same problem with my Sony Reader software but the workaround did the trick. Sony's support for the e-reader is very poor.
FYI, I contacted Sony support and reminded them that all Macs in the past few years are 64 bit and asked when they would have 64-bit support available. They couldn't even confirm that they were working on it and only promised to send my feedback to the appropriate people.
Between that and their refusal to change their iPad app so that it is accepted into the App store has convinced me to stay far away from Sony products in the future.
Yeh, Sony reader support is lukewarm at best but I think there's a Mac issue here too. Snow Leopard was 64 bit and my Reader software worked fine with it. It was only when I upgraded to Lion that I had the problem.
In Snow Leopard, your Mac likely booted with the 32 bit kernel by default. Sony never made a 64 bit kernel so it wouldn't have worked if your Mac booted in 64 bit. There's no other issue other than lack of 64 bit support.
Do you have to boot in 32 bit mode every time you want to use the Reader Library? Meaning will the launch default back to 64 bit automatically next time I turn on my laptop?
I believe the default boot is 64 bit. I have found that the Reader software works in 64 bit but it does not recognise the actual Reader device. So if you need to sync with your device you will have to reboot in 32 bit.
Some machines will default to 32 bit, depending on the model and amount of RAM. As Bakercheif said, the Reader software will work, but to use it with the hardware, it must boot in 32 bit.

i used on Sony Reader prs-600 the option "More | settings | advanced settings | format Memory | internal Memory" and it works fine with lion.
GO TO SONY PICK READER FROM MENU - CLICK SUPPORT choose model, download software.
