Can you use your iPod touch gen 4 without the glass??

I recently dropped my iPod touch gen. 4 and the top glass has started falling off and is slowly creeping towards the display, is it still possible to use my iPod without glass?? If not why?

The short answer is NO.

The glass is actually a "digitizer". It has a very fine wire mesh screen that goes to a very thin ribbon cable. The ribbon cable is connected to the main system board with a small plug. When you touch the glass, an electrical signal that corresponds to the X-Y coordinates of your finger on the touch screen is sent to the electronics. The electronics uses this signal to determine what you want the iPod to do.

Another issue is the glass is very fragile (as you have no doubt noticed..) and it will break up into very small, very sharp pieces.

You can either send the iPod back to Apple, send it to a 3rd party (non-Apple) repair facility, or you can change the digitizer yourself. Google and YouTube are your friends....
