Where is the Lion version of Property List Editor?
I've downloaded XCode 4.1 and the Server Admin app in a vain attempt to find the property list editor. Does anyone know where it is?

I was able to find property list editor in the folder developer-old>applications that was created when I installed XCode 4.1.
From the name that looks like you had a previous version of XCode ... which I don't have anymore since I did a clean install of Lion.
Try simply using the XCode.app 😉
I'm not sure that is simple. When I had the previous property list editor I just clicked on the plist and it launched it. Having to navigate XCode is not that easy. It also references using the property list editor and it isn't there as far as I can see. If you know where it is that would be a help.
You can download the previous version of XCode (3.2.6) from Apple's developer site (developer.apple.com) for free if you wish. You just need to create an account (you don't need to pay for a developer program). I am not sure if this will include the property list editor or not but it is worth a shot.
Well I figure that the plist editor is now integrated in XCode 4, but you could do the following: Get the
PlistEdit.framework (located in /Developer/Library/PrivateFrameworks/) and the "Property List Editor.app" from an earlier XCode-Installation and throw them into the corresponding folders of your XCode 4-Installation.
I don't know about that legal stuff but maybe you can get an earlier version on ADN.
I don't want to use a previous version ... since XCode 4 help discusses the Property List Editor I presume it exists somewhere ... just wish I could find it
The Property List Editor has been dropped as a standalone application. It is now fully integrated in XCode. If you click "open with..." on a .plist-file and select XCode.app, XCode will bring up the Property List Editor, but it's no standalone app anymore.
It would be great if Apple documented this. I wasted several hours hunting for it.
The correct answer helped me with the same question - thanks VincFalk.
Thank you very much for the Answer
"Open with" Xcode 4 certainly works and although the user Interface
is a slightly different than the XCode 3.2 version
the function seems the same.
I also had the older version 3.2 installed and that Property List Editor still works as well
I am afraid this adds to my bad feelings about LION as they seem to have changed things for no good reason
and generated confusion . . .

Well, isn't that special. The XCode property list editor is totally buggy. I can't edit the arguments in /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist so that Lion will use the swap partition I created under Snow Leopard.
I am NOT happy.
If you want to report this issue to Apple's engineering, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, register as an Apple Developer—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. You'll get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.
This worked perfectly, thanks. I just had to adjust the permissions on the PListEdit.framework folder to match the other framework folders. I wouldn't have found it in the PrivateFrameworks folder without your help. Much appreciated.

There's a 3rd-party Pref Setter app that seems to work.
