... is there another password to use instead of netsh winsock reset?...
"netsh winsock reset" is not a password. It is what you type at the command prompt after you select "Run as" administrator and enter your administrator password.

Oct 12, 2011 11:16 AM in response to O'CTSby Cliff From Montreal,I have been fighting this issue for 4 weeks off and on "netsh winsock reset" solved the problem. Make sure you do the restart, when I logged back onto iTunes, it prompted for a proxy server and password, use your Apple ID and Password and you should be good to go.

Oct 14, 2011 10:04 AM in response to Cliff From Montrealby pcitunesproblems,I have had this problem on and off since they updated 10.4.... and since I've downloaded 10.5. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes when I reinstall it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I've done everything on this discussion to no avail. I've reinstalled 3 times in the past 20 hours and have used the command prompt twice - nothing has changed; the loading bar for iTunes still stops halfway. It's definitely a PC issue with new updates because my friend's Mac doesn't have this problem - and I've had it happen at least twice in the last two months. Last time I dealt with this it had to do with fully uninstalling Bonjour - That's not the case now. I don't really care that much about iTunes, I just want it fixed.
I also have a problem with my iPhone that says it cannot create a session to start a backup on my computer - obviously this is a separate issue...
Frustrated with my Apple products right now.

Oct 17, 2011 2:21 PM in response to amalfromfelthamby jc33,Sw3etGsu$ told me to try Microsoft Fix it 50203 if the netsh reset did not work - which unfortunately it did not work for me.
I downloaded the microsoft fix it and am now back in business with the itunes store! Hope this helps for you too.

Oct 17, 2011 4:04 PM in response to patteelooby Zilex,Okay I have been furiously going through 100 threads a day trying to figure it out but it finally worked. I did every single step and now after being able to access itunes store my wifi sync works too so I killed 2 birds with 1 rock that was hard as **** to find. I reinstalled first following this article. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925. Then I did the netsh winsock reset.
Start-> Programs -> Accessories -> (Right Click On Command Prompt) ->Run as Administrator
then type in:
netsh winsock reset
Then I did the microsoft fix
http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9662461
Then i reset the hosts file
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034
Now EVERYTHING WORKS! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE.

Oct 18, 2011 2:37 PM in response to amalfromfelthamby amalfromfeltham,Arrrggghhh! Have now tried every single fix on the thread but still no joy. Just dont know what to do. Cant even back up my iphone and it has wiped it clean!
Incidentally I now cant seem to access the internet via my SkyBroadband icon only through Internet Explorer icon. Not sure if this has happened because of the new iTUNES update.

Oct 20, 2011 12:10 PM in response to ipodlover1987by ianfromprescot,Had this problem when upgrading to 10.4 , and Apple support gave me instructions to uninstall iTunes, QuickTime, bonjour, and all associated programs, and how to check that all remnants have been removed. That worked then, but not for the same problem on upgrading to 10.5
The advice to run from command prompt "netsh windsock reset" has worked.
Apple support just gave me a load of bland advice that did not seem relevant to the problem reported.
Thanks to those who have posted this fix, perhaps my hair will grow back soon......
