Downloading videos into iPhoto

I use to be able to download videos as well as photos into iPhoto from my SD card after a trip. For some reason, today I find that it no longer sees the videos on my SD card. Did they change this recently? I upgraded to Lion. Can that be the culprit?

What folder does the video have to on the SD card in order for it to be recognized?

Unibody i5 Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), Unibody i5 MacBook Pro rules! Fusion installed.

mts are High Def video shot in AVCHD. AVCHD is designed as a container for editable material. You need to ingest this material to iMovie, process it and then export it in a viewing format.

No, it's not true that only iPhone video can be transferred to iPhoto. Any format that QuickTime supports can be added - this includes most .mov and .avi files.
