How do I open or close a terminal

Guys I have an instruction as follows from Steam:

Note: If you are using Lion please do the following to enable your Library folder: 1. Open Terminal 2. Type chflags nohidden ~/Library 3. Close Terminal You should see the Library folder available through the Go menu on the menu bar while holding down the option key

Problem is I havent got a clue what the terminal to which they refer is or how to open or close it

And what is the option key?

Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Here is what you do:

a) Open Terminal with the instructions I provided earlier (Command + Spacebar then type Terminal)

b) Type (or copy and paste from here) chflags nohidden ~/Library

c) Quit Terminal, the keyboard shortcut for quitting any app is Command Q

All this is trying to do is show the Library folder. Another method of doing this is:

a) Open a Finder window

b) Click the Go menu and select Go to Library

c) type (or copy and paste from here) ~/Library/

d) Click Go

I suspect you are only providing a portion of the instructions Steam is providing. If I am correct then you need to post all of the instructions. If that is all they provided then you need to contact Steam for additional help. Because I don't play any Steam games I don't know their system at all.

Click on the "Finder" application in your Dock, then in the "Go" menu, click "Utilites".

Open the "Terminal" application.
Type "chflags nohidden ~/Library" as instructed, and then press "Enter".
In the "Terminal" menu, click "Quit".

Close the "Utilities" folder window.

The Option key is sometimes labeled as "Alt" or "Opt", or with this symbol: ⌥
It's located between the "Control" and "Command" keys, bottom left of your keyboard.

Click on the "Finder" application in your Dock.
Hold down the Option key, and click the "Go" menu - you will see "Library" about halfway down the menu, which you can click on only while holding down the "Option" key.

Hope that clears things up for you!
