The only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager

Thanks, I thought Apple has an inhouse solution, but OK.

Well, as you're new at using Mac, perhaps if you took the time to explain what your problem is in detail mybe someone can help you. As it is all we have is your little whine. Not enough to work with.

    sorry

i have 2 iphoto libraries on my EHD and 1 on my MBP. i dont care about edited photos etc. i wan´t them all in one library. I know that i shouldn´t use the word merge here then, right? i want to do this without ILM.

so just drag and drop or.?

    1. With the free version of Library Manager you can move up to 20 pics at a time

    2. Or just File -> Export and export the Original (Kind: Original) and export to the desktop. Then import to the other Library.

Open library 1, then file > show in finder > original foto.

Open the other library and drag&drop the photo's from the finder (=other library).

This 'll work, I just did it.

That will not work - you MUST NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder - changes of any sort may corrupt your library and cause loss of photos and data

Just making a copy of original files into another library, there's no harm there, I tested it and it works fine!. You drag them into your iphoto of course, maybe my previous comment wasn't clear about that.

But if you make any changes of any sort to an iPjhoto lbirary using the finder it will not work and can cause data loss and should never be done!

I have no idea what you are doing but copying files into an iPhoto library will not allow iPhoto to use them

You drag them (the originals) into your iphoto of course, maybe my previous comment wasn't clear about that. So it's just like dropping photo's from any finder-map into iphoto.

does not mention using the iPhoto application

And even if you do drag the original photos fom one iPhoto library into iPhoto and import them into another library - you are NOT merging libraries - you are import pphotos to a library - none of the version, metadata, albums, etc, etc come over - just the photos which is not the same as merging libraries

The only current solution to merging libraries is the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -

Can't you just open the library on the EHD, connect your iPhone and import them into that library?

Apple has an in-house solution an is the easiest way I know to merge iPhoto libraries: just use Aperture to open the first one and then import the second, third, and so on...

Here you find the step-by-step procedure: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5296

    Hope it helps
