Can I upgrade my iMac intel core duo to run lion

I have an iMac 17" that works great is in great shape, just had a 500 gb hard drive installed...realized that I could not install the new Lion because I had an intel core duo processor and not an intel core 2 duo processor. I don't have the money to buy a new iMac...is there anyway to upgrade the processor?

Save yourself the trouble; there have been several posts here where people have actually replaced / upgraded the processor and still could not install Lion - the reason being that MAS checks your entire machine and still recognizes that yours came with a not-supported processor, never mind there is a different one installed. So, apparently, you can install it, but it will not let you install Lion.
