os x lion no camera found

I have a Canon Powershot SX30 IS which worked fine with OS X Leopard. Once I upgraded to Lion, all I get when I plug the camera in is "no camera found" Any Ideas?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7)

I am using a USB. It use to open up the canon software upon powering up the camera. Since installing Lion, all I get when I power up the camera is No Camera Found. I tried uninstalling the canon software, reinstalling, restarting my mac and still nothing.

It also doesn't show up in iPhoto, which it used to.

I checked for new drives on canon's website...nothing.

Could you connect your camera to your iMac, switch it on and then open the application Image Capture (/Applications/Image Capture). Does Image Capture indicate that your camera is connected? It should appear as a Device and pictures on your camera should be displayed in the main window.

Finally, you did not answer my question about whether your iMac has an SD memory card slot and if your camera uses SD memory cards. If the answer to these questions are both "yes" then I highly recommend inserting your SD memory card from your camera directly into to the SD memory card slot. Not only should this sort out your problem but it will also make transferring your pictures faster and you don't have to muck about with a cable. Personally, I never connect my cameras to the computer directly.

OK, I'm glad to hear that Image Capture is doing the job for you. In case you have not already noted this, when you open Image Capture with a device attached with images on it then you should know that Image Capture enables you to control which application launches, if any, when that device is connected in the future. In the bottom-left of the Image Capture window is a drop-down menu that allows you to select the application that should open when your device is connect, e.g. iPhoto, so that you can use that program to import the pictures.

Further to the above you might also find benefit from buying a dedicated card reader that connects to your iMac via USB2 or (ideally) FireWire. These devices are generally pretty cheap and they'll import your pictures much faster. If you take a reasonable number of pictures then the time saving is probably worth it and particularly so if you have more than 1 SD card to import the pictures from.
