Launchpad Preferences? Doesn't save organization.

Hello,

Love my new Macbook Air... and really enjoying the new features in OS X Lion. But I'm having a bit of an issue where Launchpad doesn't seem to save the order that I organize my apps. Is this a known issue waiting to be updated? And also, is there any preferences pages for Launchpad?

Thanks.

Anyone have a comment on this? Is this something that will be looked at when 10.7.1 comes out? It's really an OCD kind of issue. It annoys me when I go back in to Launchpad and some of my icons have been automatically moved around (not including any new applications installed).

Well this post worked for me, I had to rearrange my apps one more time but they are now saving after I restart my iMac running 10.7.1.

Basically I used terminal to kill the dock with the command "killall Dock"

Then I had to delete the dock database file located in "Home Folder/Library/Application Support/Dock" you get to your Library folder by holding down the option key while clicking "Go" in Finder.

Then kill the dock again with the terminal command "killall Dock".

Finally After putting all my apps back where I wanted them they are now saving.

Akubichan and Marcelo, is it possible that you used a prefpane based tool or command line(Terminal) hacks to manage your Launchpad icons?

If so, probably your Launchpad database is corrupted, that's why it gets reset to the default state when you log in.

Basically, Launchpad validates the database every time you log in.

Launchpad will:

  • Remove all icons that link to nonexistent apps
  • Create icons for all newly installed apps
  • tries to fix corrupted databases - if it can't it simply deletes it and re-creates it with ALL icons.

Check out this post for more info.

Also, there's an OS X lion native app that helps you restore your database or manage icons - without corrupting your Launchpad database.

I only tried the free version so far and it's way better than the Air or prefpane apps out there.
