Safari doesn't work with yahoo mail: always getting beach ball

I recently encountered this problem in my new Mac BookPro. Itstarted my safari showing me the beach ball constantly in any web page (I always have the yahoo mail open in one tab). Now, since couples of days ago, every time I opened my yahoo e-mail after I click on the inbox the beach ball appears and never goes away. Even after I close the yahoo e-mail tab and I try to go back to any other web page tab I had open I get this message:

"Web pages are not responding. To reload this webpage, all pages in other tabs and windows must also be force reloaded. Do you want to reload this page?

Force reloading might cause you to loose information you have entered"

The yahoo mail works perfectly on google chrome so is a safari problem. I have no idea what to do since this is my first Mac and I am not very knowledgeable about them. Any suggestions please?

Thanks very much

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), 2.3 Ghz Intel i5. 4GB Ram

Could be a third party Safari add on causing the beachballs, troubleshooting help here > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

You can use the Console app (Applications/Utilities) to help troubleshoot.

To view only messages related to a particular action:

  1. Select the log file you want and click Clear Display in the Console toolbar. If the button is dimmed, it means this feature is not available in this log.
  2. If you want to add a time marker to the log, click Insert Marker in the toolbar.
  3. Perform the action you are interested in and watch the log display to see the messages generated by your action.

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for your answer. I read the link you sent me and I checked the different folders they suggested but I don't see any file related to yahoo and I only see one related to safari but not in those folders but in the "logs" folders in my HD, which I think is what you're suggesting me to do.

I actually not sure where is that I'm suppose to look for those logs, if it is where I found them, then I tried to look for the actions you said on the toolbar but none of them appear up there (neither dimmed or regular).

I'm not very computer savy, so If you could clarify a little bit for me what is that I'm suppose to do I'd really appreciate it 🙂

Hi!

I am having the same problems. I think this started a few days ago.

I can log into OK to yahoo mail but when I click on something - the spinning beach ball starts and goes on forever. Resetting safari and machine allows me to run it once. But after I exit from yahoo mail and come back in, the beach ball appears.

I think it must have something to do with the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and yahoo-mail + safari.

I deleted the Flash Player plug-in from the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and then Yahoo Mail runs fine and is super fast. The only problem is that I am not able to play youtube videos on safari.

For some reason, Chrome does not seem to have this problem. It runs find with YahooMail and somehow still runs OK without the FlashPlayer Plug-in.

I tried this on both my Macbook Pro and iMAC (both Snow Leopard + Safari 5) - same problem.

Hope someone finds a fix.

Looks like it is a problem with Safari + Flash - not just yahoo mail.

My sister just had the same problems on some streaming video sites and some online games. We get in OK to the sites but all it takes is a single click for the spinning beach ball to come up.

For the time being we are using Chrome for emails and gaming.

C'mon Apple - you guys got to fix this! Looks like it only happened after the last update. Things were working fine before this.

I am soo frustrated. I bought the Apple over a PC because I heard they have less problems. Doesn't seem to be the case. I a having the same spinning wheel problem when I use Safari. It only started a few days ago. I am now using Firefox. Hope someone fixes this roblem.

Hi guys,

I'm running into the same problem too. Running Safari 5.1 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Intermittently when checking mail on Yahoo I get the spinning beach ball of death when click on inbox.

Nothing works until I quit Safari.

Any solutions out there?

Open a new finder window and go to Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins. In the Internet plug ins folder there will be an adobe flash player plug in. The most recent upgrade to that plug in seems to be the problem. Just trash it and Safari and Yahoo mail should work. Only downside is that you will not have flash and will have problems with video. I found the better solution to be using Google Chrome for Yahoo mail.

@ andrea84: I understand your fustration, but the problem lies with Adobe software, not Apple.

Historically the newest version of any Adobe software is super buggy, so if you have a new Mac

chances are you have Flash version 10.3 - the version you want is 10.1 - so just google Flash version

10.1 and install that.

Hope this helps you like it did me!

Cheers!
