Is there a reason the app store is compatible with just iPods and iPhones?

This could be a really dumb question, but I just got a Mac and am not fully rehearsed with how they work. I wanted to download a game or two and I looked on the app store and downloaded a free one only to realize that it's compatible with only the iPhone and iPod/iPod touch. Is there a Mac compatible version that I'm just not seeing or is there really no app store for Macs?

You would have to check the developer site of the iOS based apps (iPads, iPhones, iPod touches) to see if they also wrote the same app for the Mac App Store, meaning it only runs on the Mac OS X.

You can access the App Store for Macs from your Apple menu, your Dock, or your Applications folder.

Those apps are available from the iTunes Store.

iTunes = iOS based devices.

App Store = Apps for the Mac OS X.
