Custom Icons in Lion Sidebar

I've seen a lot of posts inquiring about getting colored default icons back in the sidebar but thats really NOT enough (I never used the default ones color or not).

Custom Icons are very necessary as they were in all previous versions of OS X. When putting apps, folders, docs into this new Lion (icon domination) Sidebar they all look exactly the same. Without reading the text labels you cannot differentiate Sidebar content. This is a GUI no no, it defeats the purpose of icons all together. Beautiful custom icons was a huge part of the Mac GUI experience for many visual/art/design based users, aside from uniform colorles icons being a hindrance in varying degrees for all users.

Are there any work arounds for this?

Gratitude.

This is a major problem for me too. When we eventaully upgrade to Lion at my job it will hamper my organization. I have different folders for the status of jobs... Working, Completed, Pending... etc. and each has a different custom colored icon. In the sidebar I can quickly see which is which. Making everything the standard gray folder icon is a big step back in usability. Even at home where I only get the occasional job to work on, I've noticed a difference in Lion.

guys

may i make a suggestion here ? Apple doesn't necessarily sift through what's posted in this forum but they'll definitely hear us if we send our requests here :

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

if enough ask for it they WILL comply, after all what's their only reason for existing ? they simply CAN'T afford to allienate their client base....

send them feedback in a polite yet assertive manner, explaining what you like, what you DON'T like & what you need changed

i did, because for some reason i had a AWFULL experience when i first installed Lion - i complained in such detail & so vehemently that i got an actual refund for Lion while allowed to keep it

so ...let's go to work, shall we ? after all if we are happy , Apple WILL be happy ( $$$.. ) & that is how it's intended to be: one big happy family !! ;-)

I have already left feedback as well & need to for a few other issues. This is the 1st X upgrade I've had so many qualms about sigh. It feels like no one tested Lion before releasing it & b/c of that and an overall decrease in the quality of Apple over the decade, I wasn't holding my breath for a fix from Apple. I posted here to see what other users & developers come up with. But by all means keep reporting issues to Apple. Its always worth a shot.

Someone is working on the issue here --> http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=830492 find post #1754 or find the word "custom" if you'd like to locate it.

Thought I would add this to demonstrate the need for full custom icons back in the sidebar (not just color) In the pic if the folders were simply blue again, I still couldnt tell them apart with out the text lable. Same with apps & docs..1 of those app icons is an app, the other is the apps folder....color does not fix what should be totally different icons that are being overridden by Apple's new icon domination.

&

since my ''know-how'' is very limited i don't dare trying them for fear of my computer going bonkers on me !! :-b

if someone does try please post your findings, that would be VERY appreciated !!
