I'm experiencing the same with my 2010 27" iMac after I upgraded to Lion.
I just bought a magic mouse yesterday to use with my MacBook Pro 13" Core2 Duo, upgraded to Lion and I'm grieving. The pointer just refuses to move. I've 'downgraded' back to my Kensington Optical Orbit just to get my work out..help!
same issue. I use both touchpad as wella s magic mouse, depending on what im doing
no problems with the trackpad, but the mouse , alomost on every 2 boots or so, isnt recognized, and I have a heck of a time making BT find it....
very troubling, as well as time consuming.
This all happened on my new IMAC, only after upgrading to Lion last month. Till then, everything operated as it should. Hopefully, Apple finds a fix, or Ill toss my magic mouse and get a USB one from.... Microsoft!!!!
maybe that will get their attention!!!
Don't think its just lion. Mine started dropping around the same time, and I have Snow Leopard.
After changeing batteries mine is better. Even thou the batteries were "new" and displayed 100% they must have been no good. I replaced them with a pair of new rechargables and all appears to be good.
Ditto my magic mouse on Macbook Air using OS X Lion. I have a cheapo Rocketfish bluetooth keyboard that NEVER loses it's connection. But the Magic Mouse loses its connection multiple times a day. I have tried the following with no success:
1) New Batteries
2) Reset PRAM
3) Dump the Bluetooth prefs file, delete the mouse in Bluetooth setup, reboot and re-add mouse
None of this has worked. And the fact that the keyboard always stays connected says this is an issue with the Magic Mouse itself or software related to it in Lion. Did not have this problem in Snow Leopard.
Same issue here, really annoying. Started happening after the Lion upgrade (that I did yesterday).
Mouse has lost it's connection about 10 times already. Last time, after connecting it again, it worked for 5minutes before it dropped again. Using new batteries.
Had to switched to a Microsoft wired mouse... not happy.
Here's another observation. When I am away from the office, and the only bluetooth device is the Magic Mouse, I do not seem to lose the connection. It's only when I also have the bluetooth keyboard (non-Apple branded RocketFish) that the Magic Mouse drops it's connection. Still happens several times a day, at various time intervals. Can be seconds after I just reconnected, or I can go a couple of hours without a drop. No ryhme or reason to it, it seems. Have tried everything posted.
That is an interesting observation indeed. I have the same keyboard and the same problem. The only thing is I used both periphials with my old Mac Mini and Snow Leopard with no problems
That seems to have been it for me. Has not happened once since I turned off the Rocketfish keyboard and put it away. Must have been trying to use the same channels or some other interference.
I had this problem, not right after upgrading my old MacBook to Lion, but after migrating it to my new MacBook Air.
I replaced the batteries in the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard - the Bluetooth menu said they were at 100%, even though I know they were old.
Since I replaced the batteries, things are working well.
Even if you do not give some details, I would suggest to manually run Software Update (upper left corner, go down to second item), and see whether you lack some updates, they often are the solution for such a behavior.
New iMac, Lion upgrade 2 weeks ago. Mouse stops working, get message "Not Connected" short time passes and "connected". Works a short time and the problem begins again. Changed batteries multiple times but the problem parsists. Currently using an ancient mouse with a long tail.
Any suggestions how to solve the wireless mouse problem?
Cannot be a battery problem, I think. Did you run Software Update? Does it detect anything newer it is not installed on your system? Such updates may solve the issue. Give a try.
If all updated, remove the device in BT devices, and reset again.
What happens if you create a new user (Sys prefs/ Users and Groups/ New User), then boot into that user? Does it connect OK and does it behave itself, without loosing connection? Make this simple test.
I had the same problem of intermittent Magic Mouse connection. I also noticed the disconnect always happened whenever I lifted up and placed back down my mouse to reposition it. And therein lies the clue. My was indeed a battery problem - a physical battery connection problem. Lo and behold the solution was already described by this article: http://macs.about.com/od/tipstricks/qt/Fix-Magic-Mouse-Disconnects.htm
Placing a trimmed piece on paper that was cut from a business card between the batteries and the battery-enclosure lid helps hold the batteries down firmly. This eliminates the tiny freeplay that allows a physical battery terminal disconnect when the mouse is jolted.
