Ok Fredo, I've done the update and loaded up the offending project (it was my first one on ML). It's a sound to picture job with very little going on compared to a full of mix but it became unworkalbe towards the end (did work for about 4 days before it started crashing, but as I said, very simple). For the sake of testing I looped the most complicated section with the video playing in a large window. Added in several instances of CLA-76, CLA-2A, CLA-3A, opened up all the channel eqs and turned their analyzers on (I never normally use the ch eq). Then with the project still playing I loaded an instance of Trillian and started playing live. (I don't have Valhalla I'm afriad). Also tried a bunch of different plugins with busy gui's. Just for good measure I put Slate FG-X on the output (a known iffy plug, but I love it) - running in the 32bit bridge as I was running Logic in 64bit. Moved all the windows around the screen, jumped around the arrange etc etc etc. Seems pretty stable...

One observation which worries me slighty...  The analyzer in the standard Logic EQ is NOWHERE NEAR as smooth as it is under 10.6.8. It's like they've had to turn the frame rate down from 25fps to about 2. It really is that bad. Sometimes it looked even slower. Which says to me that this is a fudge, not a fix. Which is a worry. That said, my Gui didn't hang. That said I was only running for about 10mins. However, based on what I've observed I would have to tend agree with what the others have said in that you may have another issue happening here.

My rule of thumb is if I spend more than a day trying to fix a software problem then it's a clean install. Otherwise, you may spend longer trying to fix it than you would just re-installing (and for me that's about 4 days :-O)

Overall, still feels like a whole box of sticky plasters - but the extra rubber bands are holding it together so far.

I think it's been that way since version 8. It amounts to the Logic programmers trying to keep up (or figure out) what the OS people are doing. Logic has always been a framework of patches, but it used to be much more solid and well thought out. Some of Logic's internals are very old and the recent OS's both demanding (resource wise) and unforgiving.

Still just as F'd up as it was before.  Moved from 10.7.5 to 10.8.3.  Wouldn't mind fishing that $20 out of the toilet right about now but oh well.....

Thank everything holy that 10.6.8 is actually a legitimate operating system, huge thanks to whoever made Apple's last REAL OS, looks like i'll be using it indefinitely!

Still no fix ? Waiting for Maverics and LogicX ?

Yep, no fix.  And actually, since the ML updates although the lag is marginally better (it rarely does the minutes long lag it used to, but just as often does lag for around 5 to 10 seconds at a time) I have found a ton of other very odd bugs.  For instance, yesterday I was working and during playback the playback line didn't move at all along the timeline.  It looked as though nothing was playing, but I clearly heard playback.  As well, I have a ton of edit bugs now during play.  For example, if I'm playing through a song and click to place an edit during said playback it will place the cut someplace bizarre at a different point on the track.  I hit stop, undo, and place the edit again without playback:  works again.  This is something that repeats over and over when it gets into that place.  The solution is to restart Logic.  I have been in constant communication with somebody very high up in the chain on the Logic team, but to be honest, at a certain point he just said they are working on it and hasn't offered anything new.  He suggested that all these quirks could be part of the same bug.  Apparently these bugs are rare and hard to recreate.   I've suggested that I could buy a new SSD drive and reinstall Logic Pro.  He said, don't do it, it's probably not the drive/installation and doesn't want me wasting my money.  He suggests it could be memory, but I have very high quality memory and NONE of my other apps have these problems, just Logic Pro.

Been using it since 10.8.3 came out and yes, as everyone is saying - it's not fixed, but it's way way better - for me it's usable. Although it definitely feels like "mitigation technology" at work rather than an actual solution. I can identify with Fredo's comment about "odd" behaviour and sometimes I'll get some lag which Logic recovers from after about 5 secs or so. Unforuntately my own install of 10.6.8 had become very buggy so I've moved over to ML and 9.1.8 full time and, on the whole, it's ok. Though ML is as annoying as **** in many respects - like the STUPID cloud implementation for things like text edit and b&w icons, blah blah the list goes on. I should add I'm running 64bit now - don't have a lot of 32bit plugs left so AU Bridge only crashes about once a day - which is a big improvement.

I don't get the recommendation to buy a new hard drive, but whenever an app is having odd bugs that other users don't seem to be having, reinstalling the app is a possibility.

I would definitely try 10.8.4, some people reported improvements with the lag, some not, but I don't remember seeing anyone have it get worse.

Anybody tested Mavericks Developer preview and Logic ? Is it any better ?

    So......

Anybody try Logic X yet to see if this ridiculousness is fixed or not?

I didn't know it was finally announced! Today I am happy. Or at least I will be until I start running into problems with X too.

I've seen a couple separate tests saying that LPX is much more responsive and graphics in plugins are much smoother.  Of course it's still possible that some people may have lag issues, but it's promising to hear.
