how do I retrieve palm desktop file? program not supported

I upgraded tonight to Lion, without checking if it supported my old palm desktop application (that came with my old Tungsten). I don't care if I can run the program, I just need access to a few files I created with it's note pad function. specifically they are documented journals, like a blog, about my kids that I did in notes on the palm desktop. I'm a bit frantic now, thinking I've lost access to those files.

I do have several TM backups from Snow, the last one just being a few days ago. I know in the past restore has been simple to do, but after reading discussions here - it doesn't look so easy this time.

Ideally I'd like to uninstall Lion, open the app, copy the file information and install Lion again. I like Lion, but didn't realize I wouldn't be able to open my palm app. My fault, yes. How do I fix it??

Try this: Use the Finder to navigate to <yourhomefolder>/Documents/Palm/Users/<yourPalmuser>. Point to the file "User Data", control-click (or right-click), in the resulting "contextual" menu roll to "Open With", then to "Other". In the resulting list select TextEdit, then click on "Open". A window will open displaying your Palm user data. The formatting will be horrible, but if you scroll down far enough you may be able to locate the Palm note text that you want. If so, select it, copy it, open a new text window, and paste in the text.

That was helpful, thanks. But for me, the text was too currupted in certain memos, so here is what I did to retrieve all my notes.

Of course, I have an iMac that is still running on snow leopard which my kids use, so I downloaded the treo 680 software from HP website and installed it (I could not find the Palm installation CD to down the software from it):

Then, I coppied the Palm archive folder which is found in the documents folder on my laptop with the following path in finder:

users/_/documents/palm/users/your_hotsync_id/user_data

I put it on the desktop of my iMac

Then by double clicking on the user data opens the Palm Desktop Manager app and I was able to find all my memos. I copied and pasted the memos I want to iCloud.com Notes.
