After upgrading to iPhoto '11, I'm having trouble with my folders and albums.  When I created two new albums, iPhoto made duplicates of each of them.  Then it wouldn't let me delete the dupes or the original albums.  The problem albums are inside folders I created. I tried selecting the album and right-clicking to delete it. Nothing happens.  I tried selecting it and choosing "Delete Album" from the "Photos" menu. Nothing happens.  I tried deleting all the photos in the album, then repeating the previous deletion methods. The albums are still there.  According to their icons, they are NOT Smart Albums!  How can I make the dumb things go away?

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help

This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
