When I turn on IMAC i7 in Lion, many apps open at startup

If I restart or power up my IMAC many of my apps startup and pop up on the screen. Also, my Desktop background photo resets to the background photo that Lion first started with.

All apps that start, do NOT have the OPTIONS>OPEN AT LOGIN set, for starting up at login. Where do I go to turn that off?

Also, I have to go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES>DESKTOP&SCREENSAVER to reset my background photo every time, even though the folder for that photo is listed in the left hand column.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you had used the search box in the upper right of the page you could have answered this question on your own.

There are two things to do. 1) Open SysPres > General and unselect the option to "restore windows when qutting and re-launching apps." 2) when logging out unselect the check box to "reopen windows when logging back in." You can tap the space bar to quickly unselect this option in the logout dialog.
