I am trying to copy files from a external usb drive connected to my iMac to my Time Capsule - get an error message that TC cannot be modified - I am connected as the main user so do not believe security an issue - my goal is to use the TC as both backup and NAS server fro my wireless network - am new to Macs so a bit confused - any help would be appreciated

On your iMac......if you open Macintosh HD, can you "see" the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading on the left side of the window?

yes can see - I figured out the problem - I was trying to drop at the Time Capsule level vs sub folder - have copied all music and pics to TC and then mapped as an NAS - everything seems good now - thanks for your help

Im having the same issue, I get a message saying TC cannot be modified. I also want to drag files from the connected external disk to the TC.
It sounds like you are trying to drag files to the TC icon under the SHARED heading in the Finder. That won't work.
Click on the Time Capsule icon and a folder representing your TC disk will appear to the right
Double click that folder.....named "Data".....unless you have changed it.....and the TC disk will mount on the desktop.
You can drag/drop files to this icon, or to the open window representing the disk.

Hi guys, Im having the same problem too. Only that when i try and double click the data folder it doesnt mount on my desktop? any Idea what i could do?
Look for a Connect As button in the upper right corner of the window when you double click the Data folder and enter the device password for the Time Capsule.

The 'connect as' button appears briefly when i double click the data folder and then it immediately shows me to be connected.
Click Connect As before you double click the Data folder. Try different combinations.
So far, I cannot duplicate what you are reporting.
