Cracked keys

Hello,

I got a MacBook Air 2010, a couples of months ago and I noticed yesterday that 4 keys are cracked.User uploaded file

I came to an Apple Store to report the problem and they tell me that they have never seen this before… so it's my fault. They say that I probably left something on le keyboard before closing up.

This is simply impossible and honestly who would do that?... my Air is A1. If I had left something on the keyboard, how come that my displays mirror and my hinge are perfect?

Have you heard anything about this before? What can I do?

Hi,

I have encountered the same issue here, but thank god it only affects one single key on my MacBook Air 13" (2010) which I bought in January 2011.

I took it to a local Apple Premium Reseller but the technician told me that I caused the damage and therefore, the keyboard cannot be replaced under warranty.

I will take my MacBook Air to the Apple Store in Zurich and hope to get a better customer service.

I took some pictures to share it with other people having the same problem:

I have more pics in my Flickr set:

Looking at your picture, I can spot the same pattern of corrosion.

At least one other guy's MacBook Air (2010) keyboard shows the same problem:

I'm sitting under a bright light and just noticed my keys are cracking as well. Macbook Air 13" 2010 (purchased February 2011). It definitely seems like the keys that are cracked are correlatted to use. My cracks are very slight, mostly cosmetic, but since it sounds like a problem others are having I worry it will get worse. Anyone have luck with warranty coverage?

I have the same issue with the 'F' key on my Fall 2010 Macbook Air. It started as a small crack and now has become a large chip in the middle of the key. Only that one key and I'm 100% sure I didn't close anything on it. I'm out of my 1 year warranty period so I'm guessing I'm SOL, but pretty annoying that this is a problem on a machine that is less than two years old...and it started at about he 1 year mark.

warranty or not, obvious keyboard replacement is necessary.

However I ponder if you people are those (as I recall from my typing classes when I was young) the teacher would mention about "those who pounded their keys" rather than typing on them.

Or as one person called it "whack-A-mole typing" 😊 ( game where you used a rubber hammer to pound popping up moles)
