command q no longer seems to work for me. it doesn't quit from any of the applications. (tried it in safari, firefox and a other apps)

command w doesn't close the tab. command n doesn't open a new window and the list goes on.

command a does work! selects all in the page.

the keys are all good, nothing wrong with the keyboard.

what/where can i check for the default behavior of these keys? i've tried resetting to defaults in the keyboard shortcuts under 'system preferences'.

help!

You have to be in that program to command + q, sometimes it's actually in Finder. If you Command + Tab before you try, that should fix it.

Does it work when you are Command + Tab ing & whlie you are still holding Command on a program in your command+tab list, pressing Q?

I'm experiencing this same issue.  I have to press Command-Q multiple times - 6 times the last time I tried - before it closes the app.  It's very strange.

Some apps seem to work correctly - Google Chrome closed on the first Command-Q press.

    Very strange behavior.

Oh, that's just because the app is shutting down. Closing all it's network connections, etc etc.

Try opening up calculator, in Applications & see how quick it closes.
