Safari is on my list to start at boot up on three different Mac machines. This worked fine for years with all older version of Safari. Now with 5.1 Safari starts but doesn't open. In other words, the menu shows but the window doesn't open. If I click on the icon Safari opens. If I close Safari and open it manually it works fine.
Is it me or does anyone think there is abut in 5.1?
Check System Preferences - Accounts - Login Items.
Make sure Safari is still listed there.

If Safari is still listed in Login Items, since this started after the update, you may have a Safari third party add on that was compatible with the previous version of Safari but not 5.1 and that's why pages aren't loading.
It is most definitely on the list and on the MacBook there are no third party add ons or extensions. Tried turning the add ons on the other two machines off but that didn't change anything.
Try this... go to Safari / Preferences - Security. Deselect: Enable plugins.
Quit then relaunch Safari. See if that makes a difference.
If not, reselect that box.
Try resetting Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

I am seeing the exact same behavior with 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1. Safari is set to launch at login with Top Sites. Safari starts, but the Top Sites page does not build. No third party plugins installed. Tried deselecting Safari in Login Items, then resecting it. Used Cache Out to clear Safari cache, reset Safari, no change.
You can report bugs to Apple from the Safari meu bar.
