2011 i5 2.5Ghz Mac mini screen flicker issue...

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I have my 2011 Mac mini connected via HDMI to my TV, and each time I turn the TV on,- after about 5 minutes I get one single flicker where I lose picture and it comes back immediately. This never happened with my 2010 Mac mini connected the same way, which is why I'm surprised.

Again, this only happens once. After I turn the TV off and then back on, it will do the same thing again after 5 minutes. Very odd.

Thanks, guys.

I'm having the exact same problem. Mac Mini i7 with AMD graphics and 24" Apple display. For about 10 minutes each time the computer wakes up from sleep (or when it has been turned of). Sometimes it happens often (5 times a minute) and sometimes just a couple of times. The screen sometimes even turns black for about half a second. Seems to work fine when the computer is warm.

Could this be a problem with all Mac Minis with the AMD and 24" Apple display?

I am seeing something similar with my 2011 Mac Mini running Lion Server 10.7.1. I'm hooked up to an LCD monitor using the HDMI to DVI adapter. The flicker seems to be random. Sometimes it will happen within seconds; sometimes it will go several minutes between flickers. Called Appler Support today and they talked me through some reset steps. I used several apps while they were on the line and had no problem. They said if it started happening again to try connecting to a TV with HDMI.The flicker did occur again about 20 minutes after I hung up. I'll try connecting to our TV and see if that makes a difference.

I have the same problem here.I just spoke with the support. They made me to reset 2 times in 2 different ways and then I emptied the caches. Now I'll have it under observation for the next 2 days and if the issue is still there they told me i can choose to change the machine or to claim back the money.I'll update in 2 days.

After 3-4 calls to the support the last thing I was asked to open the terminal and digit :

cd /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DysplayVendorID-410c

push enter. You'll get a warning but you can continue.

Then :

sudo mv DisplayProductID-0 DisplayProduct-0 old

push enter and restart the mac.

the person on the phone told me that this solution is studied for a known issue with Philips screen, and exactly blank screen not flickering.

In any case it didn't work for me

I'm starting to think that maybe it's something about new macs and Lion. I have seen discussions in which people complain about flickering issue with the new MBA.

On Monday I'll call the support and then ask for a new mac, still don't know which one,I bought mine less than 14 days ago.

Hope this will be fixed soon.

I have the last version of Mac Mini with a slot load super drive, that I just bought new (I specifically wanted this one). I was having screen flicker using a cable that I got from a local electronics store with HDMI on the Mini side and a DVI terminal into the monitor. I thought it was the old monitor I was using, and did not notice the problem using a "pure" HDMI cable into one of our HDTVs. I bought a new monitor, and with the HDMI to DVI cable still had flicker!

My flicker is now gone by using the Apple HDMI to DVI adaptor, and then a pure DVI cable from the adaptor to the monitor. I have used it for a few hours with no flicker, and it was doing the judder and screen blanking quite frequently before.

I have no idea why adding more adaptors solved this (aren't these just electrical junctions?) but it helped me!

I bought a cheaper monitor, but suspect using a pure HDMI cable works as well, if your monitor has an HDMI input, at least based on the experience I had with our HDTV.

Odd, but it's resolved...

I think you should wait a bit more than few hours before to say that the problem is solved because in my experience the flicker is totally random.

About the cable, I'm only using a pure HDMI cable with no adaptors since the beginning.

Like Javier said it looks more an AMD problem because no one with the intel graphics is reporting any troubles...untill now.
