Image Capture, Duplex Scanning, and just about everything else
After upgrading my machines to Lion, I've hit a bunch of issues with Image Capture. My wife uses Image Capture with our Brother MFC laser printer to scan documents that she uses at work. Here are some issues I'm having:
- Duplexing - In Leopard and Snow Leopard, Image Capture would properly duplex the pages, however, since Lion, the second page of the duplex is flipped upside down. Selecting a different orientation in the duplexing options makes no difference as to how the scan comes out.
- Multiple Files - In Leopard and Snow Leopard, Image Capture would properly make files based on the scanning sessions (i.e. if there are 20 pages in the auto feeder, the scan will have 20 pages in the PDF, and the next stack of pages would create a second file). In Lion, I get a check box to put all the images in one file, but it doesn't work the way it should. When it's checked, all scanning sessions go into the same file. When it isn't checked, only the last scanned page is actually contained in the file.
- Viewing scan results - In Leopard and Snow Leopard, Image Capture would show each of the pages as they were scanned in and added to the PDF file. This made it easy to make sure that pages weren't getting crooked in the feeder, that pages weren't upside down, etc. Lion seems to have done away with the one place coverflow was incredibly useful, and now only the first page is shown.
I haven't any other need for Image Capture than these rather simple scanning options. I'd have rather them leave the old one in place than make these "improvements" that break key functionality. Has anyone else had these issues? Is there a way to "reset" Image Capture to see if a fresh start will make a difference in some of these stranger options?
