Mid-2010 MBP RAM in 2011 Mac Mini

It will work.

max is 1333mhz, never tried more.

The 2010 MBP uses 1066MHz and the 2011 mini 1333MHz. Should not cause harm but may not boot.

I'm wondering about doing the opposite and whether it will work.

I have 8 GB in my 2011 Mac Mini. I'm thinking of getting 16 for the Mini and then taking the 8gb that is already there and putting it in my 2009 Macbook.

i.e. Upgrade Mac Mini from 8GB 1333 to 16gb 1333.

Take 8gb 1333 and put it in Macbook to replace 4 gb 1066.

Has anyone tried this and if so, what were your results?

In theory one would think that it should work. However,

each SIMM has a small chip on it that gets read at boot

time to determine what type it is and other configuration

parameters. If this data doesn't match what is in the

firmware for a machine, it probably will not work.

Just to let you know it did actually work.

Mini now has 16GB of RAM and the leftover 8GB that I had previously installed in there is now sitting in the Macbook which is running just fine.
