Spotlight is taking forever to index

Spotlight is taking forever to index. I've had itnrunning for a week and the time remaining has gone from 9 Hours to 3 weeks to 4 months. Am I doing something wrong? I have a Mac pro core 2 duo 10 g ram

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), 10g ram

I doubt you are doing it wrong, but it is wrong. Stop the index by putting the drive in the spotlight privacy setting in system prefs, then run a disk utility check on the drive you are trying to index (permissions / repair) to rule out disk crude. If you have something like Disk Warrior, run that too. Then when the drive passes all the tests, pull it out of the privacy pane. I have a 500gb internal on an iMac8,1 and it takes about 1 hour to index.

I have 4T of storage

another 1T external dor docs etc.

all 4 bays have drives.MAIN IT- 500G - 500G - 500G

I turned off time machine

I just turned off the G raid and now its indexing failry rapidly from 18 to 13 to 7 hours in the last few minutes. Now hung on 7 hours

The problem yet to be solved will be indexing those other drives and how long that might take
