Motion 5 and Final Cut Express

Hello.

I use Final Cut Express (latest version). I want to learn to use Motion 5, but before I purchase it I need to know if it will work with Final Cut Express. Will video files created Motion 5 work with Final Cut Express? Can clips exported from FCE be imported into Motion 5? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Tom,

I have the same situation and questions.

I've been told that clips created in Motion 5 are exported out then imported into FCE, no problem.

Like you, I'd like to know if clips from FCE and purchased stock footage be imported into Motion 5 to work on or do we have to use only the Motion 5 templates??

Here's hoping we get some answers...

Thank you

You can use Motion with FCE.

You may want to look at these two links first:

http://help.apple.com/motion/mac/5.0/en/motion/usermanual/#chapter=B%26section=1 %26hash=apple_ref:doc:uid:Motion-UserManual-90915XFF-1004170

Your basic workflow would be:

-Import your clip into Motion. This can be the original clip from FCE, or an exported selection of your clip saved as a Quicktime Movie.

-Do your work.

-Export a Movie from Motion. Make sure it is a format that FCE supports, check the documentation for FCE.

-Import the rendered file back into FCE.

As I pointed out, you will just want to make sure you use video that both applications can handle.

Ben - I will definitely check out the tutorial --thanks!

You wouldn't happen to know if it will teach "how to work with green screen"?

I have stock footage of a Smart Phone where a finger is touch moving what is on the green screen to get to the next photo. The pic below will give you an idea.

And here's a YouTube link so you can see the actual footage:

Thanks sooooo much,

Hi,

Just bought Motion 5 and I came across this post because Motion will not let me import files created by FCE4, because there is no codec that is supporting it. Looking at the files created by FCE4 I see the codec used is DVC-PAL, Lineair PCM, Timecode. I did not specify anything in particulat in FCE4, just used the Export Quicktime option and I can import these files perfectly into iMovie.

Is there a way to add codecs to Motion ?
