iphone working one night then i wake up and iphone dead

hello guys i have a 3gs and one night there was 10% battery left i woke up phone was dead.

then i brought it to a genius bar and them chaps are not very helpful very nice but they provide a sympathy service with a touch of a sales man. any how what really annoyed me was they were doing what I was doing in the house trying to charge it and pressing the home button and the on button at the same time, so my liquid indicator isn't on i knew that and that was about it then i was told must be hard wear mate cant do anything!! genius bar so what is that about.

what annoys me is that I didn't do a thing wrong didn't drop it liquid etc just dead. so they said that if i pay £139pounds and hand in the other phone i would get a new one in return.

Ok so the phone is 2009 November so its out of warranty. Then I thought of buying the care protection plan but again you have to do that in the first year.

i didn't do a thing wrong,in a week apple makes profits like never before and fair play to them on that, but with cases like mine surely they should provide a better service to customers that simply didn't do anything wrong However it would hurt profits i dont think it would. Many people in my case would pay the piper but i think the piper is sticking one up my you know what, and i don't like it like that.

so any sugesstions on similar problems that people have had with this issue and im sure im not alone even if my genius said this was his first time he has come across this

so ladies and gentlemen

what should i do go with HTC or pay the Piper and say in love with my iphone im in a nelly and kelly dilemma moment.

iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.3.3, iphone dead did nothing wrong

what good are they my pocket was already hit in going for the phone i wont be hitting it again

It is true that most things don't last forever but most things are definitely suppose to last longer than the ONE year warranty. Especially when paying as much as we have paid. Yes its a super awesome phone but sure as **** NOT worth $300.00 for approximately 14 months or whatever. We're talking about "Apple" right? Its impossible to believe that after trusting Apple enough to buy their high priced, high tech iPhone that after a year they won't back up their product unless you fork out more **** money. They won't even TRY to help us out with their product. It's just wrong. Its obvious that they don't care because thats just how it is and their concern is raking in that dough. Its a moral thing. Doing the right thing. There is nothing like an excellent company who cares about the people who have made their company what it is.

Okay, so you probably have guessed that this sad situation has happend to me as well. I am furious! I can not afford to put out any money at all for the phone. I couldn't even afford to buy it in the first place (at all). I'm just upset and i had to vent. You were the lucky one to hear it thanks to your "nothing lasts forever" comment. lol 😉 Hey, CRAFTSMAN tools last FOREVER!!

I feel your pain. This has happend to me, as a matter of fact just last week! I'm super furious! I guess rules are rules or whatever. This is the very first time that I have ever heard of an awesome company who refuses to help all of their customers after the first year. Doesn't matter if we helped to make their company what they are today the truth of the matter is after a year they don't want to hear us....they want us to speak "money" (again)! Had i known when i purchased this $300.00 phone a year ago in June that this $300.00 would only allow me usage for 14 months only then THAT would have been the deal BREAKER! I'm just furious not only because there is no way i can afford this but also because it doesn't seem like the RIGHT thing to do. Yes, i guess its legal but not morally right.... Lets cry together.. lol

While I feel your pain and have sympathy for your situation, it is only fair to present the other side here also.

You stated that you might go with HTC because you feel that Apple doesn't have a warranty and customer support system that is fair. Fair enough for you to feel that way. So, let's compare it to another company in the same industry. We'll go with HTC since you mentioned them.

Apple provides a 1 year warranty and 90 days of live telephone support, both of which are extendable to 2 years for one price of $69. It covers hardware, accessories, batteries, operating system, itunes and all apple made software. The live phone support is one on one with an advisor and is not limited to simple troubleshooting and reporting of problems, but allows one to literally pick up the phone any time between 7 am and midnight, 7 days a week and ask any question regarding use of the phone or itunes -- they will explain and walk you thru anything. And Apple doesn't farm thier call centers out overseas -- US and Canada have call centers in the US. Additionally, they have an incredible support website that is well organized, easy to search and contains the exact same articles that the advisors use to help thier customers. Moreover, any repair out of warranty for an iphone is a flat rate price of $199 on a $700 phone, regardless how serious the issue is.

HTC provides a 1 year warranty. They do have a phone support hotline, which is open from 10 am to 7 pm, 6 days a week. There is no extended warranty or care plan, as far as I can tell, available at any price. While it doesn't specifically state that the live phone support expires at any particular time frame, 90 days is generally an industry standard. I don't know if you can just call them up and ask how to questions, but I doubt it. They do have a support website which is very sparse, dissorganized, and pretty useless. If any of the services that I have stated that HTC does or doesn't provide is incorrect, it is because they don't even bother to explain what the customer is or is not elligible to recieve in support.

Like it or not, Apple spells out very clearly what level the customer can expect to receive: 1 yr warranty + 90 phone support extendable to 2 yr and 2 yr. Then for those "out of support", they still provide a very good safety net to turn to: flat rate fee repairs, industry leading tech support site and even these discussion boards they are hosting.

Very few, if any smart phone companies out there are providing that same level of commitment and support to thier customers.

Apple doesn’t get it ok so there are so many smart phonesout there many argue better than iPhone I unsure as using mine I thought it wasjust amazing.

But where apple is rotting but making massive profits even.Is getting people like me that has done the right thing buy an iPhone then Iuse it for a while then the guaranteegoes then somehow I phone dies you didn’t drop it drive over it nothing,

There customer services is sales advice how to get more profitspay more and show me no ideas how to fix the iPhone.

Things happen with the best company now please don’t daretell me that apple is the best company maybe they are with profits, but forgenuine people that haven’t done anything wrong just didn’t charge it before Iwent to bed!! Come on there a disaster.

Most things don’t last for ever well they would if someonewould take reasonability for their products. It’s all about money they get yourmoney then ask for more to cover it now come on I have forked out a lot of cashto get the iPhone and people will say ahhhh but you should have covered itahhhh no if I don’t drop it in the Atlantic ocean it should cover itselfshouldn’t it. How stupid does that look you buy a new iPhone and they want moremoney to cover what it’s a new phone.

Vodokar hello

I have been on many forums talking about little things butyou my dear sir/Madame are the one person in the world that must work for waitfor it Apple I would never had guessed. How sad are you. Your trying to stickup for someone that drops people like me that’s spent a fortune on a phone andby saying (Very few, if any smart phone companies out there are providing thatsame level of commitment and support to their customers)

As soon as I mentioned HTC ohhhhh who’s this. We must makeit clear again about how apple does more for the customer that others don’t.they haven’t done anything for me and don’t give a you know what about realproblems like hard ware issues that I have no control over but I should havecharged it.

I must say I’m just shocked I’m on apple website ok I shouldexpect that I will admit but jasus you sound so bad. See when you work for apple its ok you willget a discount maybe 2.5% as anymore would dent the profits and most of thepeople at the genius bar just want to be seen (salesmen) as I’m working for acompany that simply doesn’t care but only care about money.

As far as I’m concerned when there’s a hard ware issue ITS NOTMY FAULT APPLE IS AT FAULT

Do more to people like me that have spent a fortune don’task me for more money just fix it. But you won’t so therefore HTC yes HTC isthe new way forward as there phone will last longer than my 3GS

And then for me it will be better they just might fix a hardware issue and I do hope one thing HTC don’t have those genius bars as driving40miles to watch a guy do what I did all day and then say sorry mate I want£139 hard ware problems.

sraheens,

I did not make any personal attacks against you in any way. There is no reason for you to respond to me as uncivil as that.

Nonetheless, what I said stands. You are complaining that you can't get your phone replaced for free after your hardware warranty expired.

Which part of HTC and every other cell phone maker also only has a 1 year warranty did you not understand?

My daughter's Motorolla Droid just died on her after 16 months and guess what? She had to pay for the repair.

None of that may seem fair to you, but it is a fact, nonetheless. Cars typically come with 5 year warranties. Computers typically come with 2 year warranties. Phones are 1 year. It is simply the way it is. You can't blame Apple for that. Thier policy is equivelent to everyone elses.

And no, I don't work for Apple. I am simply someone that has over 25 years of experience as a customer with Apple's products as well as many other computer and electonics products. I am a consumer, just like you.

My point wasn't to defend Apple. My point was to point out to you that none of the competing smart phone products on the market are any more stable or reliable than the iphone nor are they going to give you a new phone when it's out of warranty. What you are asking is unrealistic.

To put things in perspective: There are over 200 million iphones around the world. The failure rate is less than 2%. I'm sorry that you fell into that 2%. However, it is not common what you experienced.
