Purchased music skips

I just listened to a song I purchased a number of months ago and find it skips. I'm curious if you've encountered faulty ITMS downloads, how was the problem corrected?

I downloaded a couple tunes that evening, and absentmindedly, this particular song got lost "in the shuffle" - as it were - until recently when I played it. As I hadn't heard it until now, I can just assume it came across in the damaged way.

Since I wrote this post, I wrote Apple requesting a second, free download to replace the one in my Library. No response as of yet. Of course, their copy may also be faulty. No?

Or does this imply a spotty download? That is, a result of the transmission getting interrupted en-route - from the ITMS to my computer?

It could dimly be possible that it's a corrupted download, but since it plays at all, I doubt it. More likely the iTMS was given a faulty track by the record company (the iTMS doesn't do their own encoding). Whether or not they'll authorize the replacement of a track months after it was originally purchased I can't say, but we'll hope for the best.

I am happy to report that the folks at Apple were very helpful.

They simply re-dowloaded the tune for me. When it later turned out that there was difficulty replacing the corrupted version of the song on my iPod (even though the correct version was now in my ITM Library), we worked it through with very constructive back-and-forth e-mail messages.

The damaged song has been deleted from the computer, re-downloaded with a pristine copy, and correctly re-synced on the iPod.

First-rate service from the on-line iTunes technical support team.
