This could be caused by a damaged preference file in your user account. The easiest way to test this is to create another account in "Users & Groups" under System Preferences, then simply log out of your existing account and log in to the new account. Are you able to make Bluetooth discoverable under the new account?

If a new user account does resolve the issue, you can remove the existing Bluetooth preference file under your user account to see if that resolves the issue on your account. To do this:

  1. Log out of your temporary account and log back in to your regular account.
  2. Open a new Finder window.
  3. Hold the Option key on your keyboard.
  4. Click on "Go" from the menu bar and select "Library".
  5. Open the "Preferences" folder.
  6. Open the "ByHost" folder.
  7. Move the file that begins with "com.apple.Bluetooth" to your desktop or another folder.
  8. Log out of your account and then log back in, this will recreate the preference file.
  9. Attempt to make Bluetooth discoverable in System Preferences.

If a new user account doesn't resolve the issue then you can attempt to reset Bluetooth by removing the system-wide Bluetooth preference file. To do this:

  1. Open System Preferences.
  2. Click on Bluetooth.
  3. Toggle the "On" checkbox so that it is turned off.
  4. Open a new Finder window.
  5. From the "Go" menu, choose "Go to Folder..."
  6. Type /Library/Preferences, and then click on Go.
  7. Move the "com.apple.Bluetooth.plist" file to the desktop or another folder.
  8. Restart your Mac by going to the Apple menu and choosing "Restart..."

Let us know if this resolves the issue for you. 🙂
