Mac OX X Lion freeze after wake-up

I gave up trying to solve this with the AppleCare people after wasting hours and hours. No one ever suggested replacing hardware or machines.

The working 'solution' for me since I last posted on this thread and it is not a particularly satisfactory one as I now have no security on my computer was not to use a login password to wake the computer from sleep. No password resulted in no freeze, no etchasketch. It is the only thing that worked in my case.

Computer sleep and Display sleep set to the same time as well.

I have one of those 27 " mid 2011 Macs running Lion, the problem first appeared on upgrade to Lion.

I have a late 2009 iMac i7 27" and it happens about 20% of the time requiring a hard shut down. Either the WIFI signal doesn't stop searching (even though the Airport Extreme light is green), or it freezes with a black screen and only white cursor visible. My Early 2011 MBP no problems waking. I have one more day on my AppleCare on the iMac but I know Apple won't resolve it. It's Lion and I know that because I never had issues with Snow Leopard.

I think JoannainBristol is as close to reality as possible. Again, I'm not computer savvy. This is my gut speaking. Having said this, today is day two since picking up my BRAND NEW 15" Macbook with retina, which replaced the three-month old of the same with these issues. This morning I touched the trackpad, last night's open Safari page appeared, then within two seconds, it went to sign on screen, but not the desktop sign on screen. The one that gives me the etch-a-sketch effect, and, yes, it did. I was able to sketch away enough grey to find sign on, then had to sign on, then sign on again, then it went to desktop sign on.

If anyone from Apple is really monitoring these posts, please note that I am ready to dispense this computer out the window. Seriously, I could have bought a pc for a LOT LESS. Thankfully it has yet to freeze, but now I'm expecting nothing less given history. What is most disappointing is that I've found posts about these issues from 2011. This is not the Apple we have grown to love. I am majorly disappointed, and being the unfortunate eternal optimist, realize that this is just another corporation making money while we follow the cult. Reminds me of Toyota of earlier years, most reliable car on the market, and then....is no one checking quality control? Just me ranting right now. Do I really want to spend more hours transferring everything from my computer to an external drive, then adding back one by one, even if Apple helps me do it...which they will because I don't trust myself. For $2.0+? The problem is NOT my software, all of which ran fine on Snow Leopard. I cannot tell you how many family I've preached to switch to Apple, and some have. The innovation may be there, and by comparison, the customer service is unmatched, but I want a product that flows seemlessly. You know, like my previous three-year old Macbook.

Ok I'll stop now. But am very very frustrated, disappointed, and will try not using sign on at all to see if this helps.

Unfortunately, there are so many variables that differ among our machines, that describing the problem is like hearing a thousand blind men describe an elephant.

In my case, the problem began in Snow Leopard and continued into Lion. I'm trying to avoid migrating to Mountain Lion because each stupid increment is very costly in terms of various third-party software requiring expensive upgrades. My solution, which I posted here before, was to shut off my browser before the computer went to sleep. No more freeze. It took me well over a year to figure that out.

I have gone from being an Apple evangelist - probably converted 20 people since 2000 - to becoming disgusted with Apple for its grubbiness and abandonment of the early customers/evangelists who helped it grow and stood by it during the bad years.

Possibly, we may be watching the Redmond-izaton of Apple.

I gotta tell ya. I am soooo sick of this I am ready to abandon Apple, completely. There was a time when I absolutely loved my Apple products. Why? Because being based on the UNIX operating system, MACs OS was never supposed to compromised by "applications", whether they be vendor based or Apple based. The apple operating system was supposed to knock out bad behaving applications including their own logon app, browser or whatever. So what happened to Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion? Apparently Apple went the way of Microsoft and allowed applications to circumvent the OS for performance reasons or Apple just got plain old sloppy with their QA process in order to get out to market ahead of their competition. Whatever the case, I am sick of my Mac freezing right in the middle of my trying to do something. It's like MS Windows 95 all over again. What a sham. So net/net, Apple has great ideas, great solutions, poorly implenented. And they give NO help at all when called. They try to blame it on hardware. For shame Apple. For shame....

I think I discovered which application is causing the Macbook Air I own to freeze. It was suggested above in another post that the login application was causing the frequent lockups. So, I disabled the login application. Basically my Macbook is not locking up anymore. Can it be? Yep. Any feedback from Apple on when they plan on fixing their application(s) or their OS so it doesn't allow an application to lock it up (as it was advertised to be as a benefit over windows). Hmmmmm.... I don't think so. No one seems to be home at Apple.

Wel, I was wrong. My Macbook still hangs and apparently no one monitors this discussion board. I'm done. Bye everyone. Enjoy your crappy Apple products.

I had the freezing issue for a really long time on my Early 2011 8,2 (SL, Lion, ML)

After trying it all possible solutions. I was planning to set Apple Co. on fire. Then I realised (remembered) that freezing issue started after upgrading my firmware. So I got a .pkg that does the work for 8,x series. I tried to upgrade it again after the downgrade, but it started to freeze again. So I'm sticking to the downgraded firmware which is MBP81.0047.B0E.

Try this

Go to Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash these files:

com.apple.finder.plist

com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

Restart with hold the shift key

then

Restart

This solved my problem

I have noticed 2 things that may be contributing to this. The 1st possibility could be weak batteries in the keyboard. The 2nd possible cause is losing the network connection. I identified these as possible causes because I had to correct them after a power cycle. However, I can't say 100% that they are the cause as my iMac continues to hang coming out of sleep from time to time and it's definitely annoying.

Update: I changed the keyboard batteries less than a week ago and they are dead. Makes me wonder what is going on with the bluetooth. I've been losing the connection to the mouse a lot lately as well.
