OS X 10.7 Lion & Samsung Syncmaster not working!

Hi Everybody!

I have a Macbook Late 2009 which I connect my external Samsung Synmaster 226BW monitor to. It's connected through a Mini Display to DVI converter baught from Apple Store.

In Snow Leopard my desktop popped up on the external monitor when connected. After installing LION it doesn't work anymore! So it has nothing to do with my converter, monitor or installed applications (I don't use insomniaT which when uninstalled solved the problem for some people)

I've tested it with a Mini Display to HDMI converter connected to a LG television which works perfect.

Does anybody have the same problem?

I've called Apple Support and they couldn't solve my problem.

Please help - I'm open to any possible solutions.

Hi all,

I own a 2011 MB Pro and updated my Snow Leopard to Lion last week.

Since then I can't use my new Acer S243HL external screen anymore!

I've tried using both my mini-display to VGA adaptor and my mini-display to HDMI adaptor. I also tried connecting to my Sony Bravia and Sharp TVs.

None of them work, while everything worked flawlessly with Snow Leopard!

When using my MD->VGA adapter no display is detected at all. When using the MD->HDMI adopter, the display is detected but the screen shows a "no signal" message.

I bought a 1700 euro laptop to get rid off exactly these problems once and for all :-(

If you need your MB with an external display, consider not updating to Lion!!

I worked on my external screen every day for SW-development...

Hope this can be fixed soon.

Regards, David.

It finally turned out to be a problem due to a failed "Thunderbold Firmware 1.0 Update". So not a problem with Lion as far as I know now! I created a new discussion for this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3269649?answerId=15964054022#15964054022

Last status:

Today i went to the apple store and we tested multiple scenarios such as booting in target disk mode and trying a fw-update from there. While the update was available now, running the fw-update did still not succeed.

The laptop is sent to a repair centre and my HD and extra memory banks were switched to a spare MB pro for the time being. Great service!

This new one (running Lion from my replaced disk) works flawlessly with remote displays. So it definitely is the firmware or the hardware! Hope it can be fixed and returned soon. I will update the new discussion when I get more news.

I had similar issues with a brand new Mac Mini Server. Ithought I could save some money and use an existing monitor (Samsung Syncmaster). While the computer was in use the wireless keyboard, wireless mouse and monitoroperated OK.

However, as soon as the monitor went to sleep there was noway to reactivate the computer. I went through each device and scenario, without success, I even connected a wired keyboard and there was no response.

I reviewed the responses and discussions over the web, andtook a chance and changed my HDMI/VGA connection to a HDMI/DVI connection to anewer monitor that supports HDMI and DVI.

Problem solved. Although Apple sells the connector HDMI/VGA,you must be warned the results are undesirable.

Hope this is helpful.

THE ONLY THING THAT HAS WORKED FOR ME... after going through about 20 different threads, pram, osx reinstalls, switchresx, different resolutions etc.... was found here.. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2731536?answerId=16189472022#16189472022

Boot up normally... make sure your monitor is already set to the right video (ie dvi, hdmi etc) Unplug the monitor Power cable, then plug in your cable (ie mine is DVI) to your macbook, (the screen should go blue for a sec.) Then, only then once your screen comes back, plug in the power cable to the monitor. Somehow it resets mine everytime, and my macbook redectects the monitor. So rediculous, that I also as a graphic designer (which ive seen a few on here) who need their **** externals are dealing with this. Really hopes this saves someone the pain i've went through on this.
