Connecting Mini to Ubuntu distro

Hey all, I'm currently trying to connect my Mini to my Ubuntu computer (actually physically located right next to each other but going through the home LAN with also a couple XP machines on it). I thought I enabled file sharing on Ubuntu but every time I try to connect to it Finder works forever and then when I hit force quit it shows it's not responding.

So my question to all of you networking wizards is how the heck can I get this thing to work?? Any suggestions would be great, and thanks for the time!
