Q: MacPro Cannot connect to a network printer(Ricoh Aficio 3245C)

Hello,

I have read some discussion related to this issue but found nothing that has a perfect match with my problem.

Let me enumerate some important details first:

We have a MacPro Quad Core OSX 10.6.

We have a network Printer (Ricoh Aficio 3245C).

2 new MacPro is unable to conect to the network printer.

All other Macs are connected to the netowrk printer.

The new MacPro can only connect to the printer using printer sharing.

MacPro can ping the Network Printer.

Tried to add the network printer using the IP address but it won't connect to the printer.

With these information, I am humbly requesting everyone's assistance on this.

Can you confirm you know the CORRECT IP address of the printer (by checking the printer's IP address on the other Macs that can connect to it?)

You could try "Printer IP Remedy" on the MacPro - it will "correct" an IP address on a printer that has been setup, but now has a different IP address (without having to delete the printer and start again):

I am absolutely sure about the IP address of the printer. Someone has told me that ther could be some limitations to the network printer on up to how many is allowed to connect to it.

Have you downloaded the drivers (newest version) from Ricoh and installed them on your computer?  Next does the Ricoh supprt PostScript?  I do not know if PS is nativly supported on that  Ricoh series or if a seperate purchase is needed to support PS.

Next, are you sure that the Ricoh network settings are a static IP or a reserved IP AND that the network addresses it will allow contact from include the IP of your system?  Some security settings can be configured to allow only selected IPs or a limited range of IPs to gain access to the printer.  If your computer is not in the allowed range, it will completly ignore your computer.

You can see if you can actually aacces the printer by using the printer's IP address in a HTTP://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX  try from your browser.

Enabling Printer Sharing says, " I OWN this printer and all others will use it exclusively through ME." If you have set it up that way, you will need to delete that before you can proceed.

If your network is using private addresses using DHCP provided by a Router you control, turn off the Firewalls on the individual Macs. You are already well protected.

Someone made up that answer and it is WRONG.

The "limit to how many can connect to it" MAY NOT be wrong IF the printer is set up to only accept a limited IP range and all the addresses in that range are already taken.  That is a function of the setup of the printer and not the printer itself.

I have a lab where there are only eleven computers that can connect to a printer.  All 11 are in use.  To add another computer to the printer would require that the printer's "allowed" IP range of addresses would have to be extended.

Wolla! I was suprised with all of the help.. Hail to all you!

I'll check if there's a recent driver update fo ricoh. Also, since all the systems that are using the said netowrk printer are either G4, G5 or Imacs then I can assume it supports Postscript. (Hope I'm right! )

All IP addresses within the network are manually given. I will have to check then the settings in the printer to see if the IP of the macpro falls under the IP range allowed by the network printer.

I shall update you guys right away

Had the exact same problem, two years and lots of updates later.

    Ricoh C5501 PS

Six Macs on the network can print to it.

    One Mac Pro cannot.

When deleting and adding the printer we get the following error: Unable to verify the printer on your network.

    Won't Print.

Solution: add the printer using HP Directjet - Socket and NOT the IP option.
