DVDSP and stories

Hi

I promise I did RTFM and searched the forum but I can t find a solution.

I have a PLAY ALL button and different chapters buttons connected with stories.

I would like the users, when they select PLAY ALL, to be able to navigate skipping chapters other than the ones I created for the stories, but if I create other chapters in the middle of the stories when it plays the story (from the chapter button) the story will end on the first chapter instead of playing until the end of the original story.

Is there a way to create chapters that the story can't see but the PLAY ALL does?

Hope it make sense

Thanks for the help

The way it traditionally works is you have a Menu with a variety of buttons on it. The story buttons point at the different stories associated with the Track, while the Play All button points at the Track itself (not a story).

Now a Story consists of differnt chapter markers of the Track. You do not need to have the chapter markers in order, and you do not have to add all the chapter markers in a Track. So if you want a Play All button that skips certain chapter markers, then create a new story with all the chapter markers you want, in the order that you want.

Hi Shawn

Thanks a lot for your reply, I think I am missing something, I have the play all button associated to the track and the story buttons associated to chapter markers on the track that play only sections of it. Now if I add a chapter marker, automatically the story associated to that section of the track become shorter, and take the new chapter marker as the end of the story and jump to the menu.

Basically the question is how I assign manually a particular chapter mark as the end of the story, making the story ignore some of the chapter markers?

Hope it makes sense.

PSv Btw a couple of days ago I posted the same question to another forum, sorry for the cross posting but didn t get any answer!

I'm troubled by the idea that you apparently continue to add chapter marks after you've created your stories. This is probably the source of your problem.

Be that as it may, you should be able to edit the individual chapter entries in you story and correct the problem. Select the "new" chapter mark on the right hand side of your story window. In the Inspector you should see "Story Marker" as a descriptor at the top of the Inspector window and an End Jump drop-down right under the Name field. Changing the End Jump to "Not Set" should fix the problem.

Yeap I realized that s the problem, I can t create more chapters after the stories are connected.

I started from scratch but still any story I create and link to a chapter take the next chapter as the end of the story and in the story window there is only the first Chapter entry.

So assuming I have a track with 9 chapters and I want to create a story that start on chapter 5 and finish on chapter 8 and jump to menu.

I create a story for the track, link it to chapter five and when it hits chapter 6 it jumps to menu!

I would really appreciate if any of you can pls take me step by step on how I set the story to get to chapter 8 and than jump to menu.

Feel a bit dumb tonight, can t really figure it out!

Thanks

"So assuming I have a track with 9 chapters and I want to create a story that start on chapter 5 and finish on chapter 8 and jump to menu."

Create your story from the the Track. Open the story window and select chapters 5, 6, 7, and 8 and drag them to the right side of the Story window.

You can either 1.) go to the Outline tab in quadrant 1, select the story, and set the end jump to the menu with the story button.

OR

2.) Select story marker 8 in the Storys window and set its End Jump to the menu with the story button.

(I'm working from memory here, you may want to do both...)
