I've created animations in previous versions of Motion that I need to use in my FCPX projects. How do I get these in the FCPX timeline? They currently appeared greyed out in the import window!
Export them from Motion in the hi res codec of your choice v
That's a workaround, but not a solution. Why can't I just put a Motion project on the timeline like I used to be able to do? Would it work if I bought the new Motion and created a project in the new Motion?
In Motion 5, when saving your project you can go to: File > Publish Template > and select Publish as Final Cut Generator. It will then show up in FCP X's Media Browser under the Generators section.

No, I hope they get around to enabling that sort of integration. Sounds ideal.

No, I think that was a real "workaround" solution. I wouldn't be publishing generators for every video I created in Motion. It's for creating templates, not a subsitute for project integration.
The only way is to export (usually ProRes 4444 if you need the transparency)
