Hi aroon, I've just read your suggestion on how to run Rise of Nations Gold and am very interested in anything that will get RON up and running at high resolution.

I've just bought an imac from Apple store, Parallels Desktop 8 and a new copy of Windows 7. That was last Friday (15th Feb). So far I can get RON to run but at poor resolution and distorted figures (everybody has only one leg - amusing at first to watch, but frustrating when it comes to horses, they don't have any!)

I would be prepared to buy an ex-hdd and Snow Leopard to get RON up and running (I think it must be love) but -

could you tell me how to go about setting up an Ex-HDD so I can boot from it?

regards,

The "dual-boot" option suggested by those responders requires that you own a Mac that shipped originally with Snow Leopard or earlier. If it shipped with Lion or Mt. Lion, this option will not work for you.

The "dual-boot" option requires that you partition your internal hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard (with the optional install of Rosetta) into it. You then can use Startup Disk in System Preference to choose between which System OS X you want to boot from on the next Restart: Snow Leopard or Lion (hence "dual-boot").

You choose Snow Leopard when you want to play RON and you reboot into Lion when you need iCloud or other Lion required apps.

If you cannot install Snow Leopard, as indicated above: then your only other option is to Install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) in Parallels

Ok, I checked out that link, but it looks like Kappy is helping to completely reformat the hard drive and install SL...that's not what I want to do. I just want to use a small part of my 1TB harddrive to install SL so that I can install Rise of nations so I can play it... Is that what Kappy is suggesting but I just didn't understand it that way?

Thanks again

Ok, I am trying to do this right now and here is the process I followed so far...but I think I may have done it wrong.

I opened DU, clicked on partition. My HD is 1TB and about 250g's are used up. What I did was draged the size of the harddrive to about 300's, then hit apply. It's been taking a while to do this process.

This is where I think I actually made a mistake. I think I am currently shrinking my OSX to 300g's. Instead, what I wanted to do what hit the + sign to add a partition...I can't seem to stop the current process, so I will have to let it finish. However, when its done, I'm guessing I will want to remove the partition the (because it is just too big for what I want). Then recreate a new partition using the + sign.

Yes? No?

Thanks

Anyway, its at pcmag.com The subject heading is "Using Partitions to Downgrade from Apple OS X Lion to Snow Leopard.

I presume you Mac came with 10.6 or later as the originally installed OSX? If it is later and came with 10.7 or 10.8 then chances are that Snow Leopard cannot be installed on a seperate partition, but only in a virtual environment with the Server edition.
