Mac OS X Lion WiFi issues

Ever since I have upgraded my late 2009-iMac to Mac OS X Lion 10.7 I have been experiencing issues regarding my WiFi. I'm actually loosing connectivity, as in AirPort seems to keep "refreshing itself" for no apparent reason, and disconnecting my WiFi intermittently each time. It's almost like my WiFi card can't keep a stable connection to my router anymore. This problem is not occuring on my iPhone, which is also connected to the same home network on the N Router. It's constantly halting downloads halfway through, or near to the end, and they have to be restarted and this is infuriating when the download has taken ages!

Even reaching this page now took several refreshes, as Safari keeps coming up with blank pages every now and then telling me I am not connected to the internet.

Has anybody else had problems with Lion dropping WiFi connection constantly?

Why does the other Macbook and 2 other Apple devices work fine?

IMHO I think it comes down to the physical WiFi chip in the Apple device. I have three Lion Apple devices on my network (MacBook Air, 2010 MacBook Pro, 2011 iMac), and only the iMac gives me this nightmare wireless issue.

So my theory is that the WiFi chip is the changing variable, and could be where the issue ultimately is coming from.

That seems to be exactly what's going on here. The affected chipset seems to be the Atheros one which is used in most iMacs. It appears that driver for that chipset that Apple is shipping with Lion is buggy. Going back to the Snow Leopard driver fixed the issues for me, but that's of course only a temporary workaround.

I found the solution. I enter my router settings and in firewall options turned off ( unchecked ) IP Flood Detection . Really tried with it or without it and that seems to be the problem. I hope that this post will be seen by APPLE and will be fixxed in another update so i don't have to turn that off. Hope it's nothing dangerous turning it off.

TeeTw0 would changing that driver cause any issues when running updates etc.?

I don't think so, but don't know for sure. I've downgraded to the Snow Leopard driver about 3 weeks ago and have had no problems since. All Software Updates worked fine.

My assumption would be that when 10.7.3 is being released, the Snow Leopard driver will be upgraded to whatever driver ships with that release - assuming there is an updated driver.

What a nightmmare. I have tried pretty much every tip out there (still haven't swapped drivers yet as I was working my way through other solutions first) and nothing works. The worst part is the inconsistency. 2 days ago, things worked fine most of the day. Yesterday, I was getting a dropped signal constantly. I have tried every Lion network setting listed, deleted keychain, re-added network, gone into router and tried changing channels etc.

This is ridiculous. I have only had this 27" iMac almost 2 weeks, and I am ready to take it back.

Reverting to Snow Leopard or the Snow Leopard driver will be my last step. By why should I (and the rest of the people in the thread) have to go through all this crap in the first place?

Hi guys

This is a software issue with Lion and I know this and i can profe it. Its not just WIFI issues with Lion it is also Core Aduio problems as well. I found when i started having major issues with the wifi or sound I would open up Activity Monitor and find the WIFI in the Process name and the Core Audio and force quite the process and restart it and behold the problem was fixed, well for a little while at least. I have been to the Genius bar 2 times with this problem and have had Lion reinstalled on my machine both time and still the same problem. The Genius's (i use the term Genius it its broadest term, they should be called brainwashed peon) said it has to be a hardware problem even though i can prove that it isn't. I dont' know what it is with apple and admiting problems. Anyway Apple is about to release Mac OS 10.7.3 to the masses, its out for build testing now, lets hope they address these issues.

Listen, do not fall into the trap of others bellowing. Look for suggestions, and possibly answers (especially if it is still under waranty.) Do not assume the converse (If q then it must because of p.) Try this: open System Preferences: Network: click the minus sign after selecting wifi. then go to the assist me button. Also make sure your location is on automatic.
