2010 MBP to Thunderbolt Display. Will USB ports work?

I have a a loaded 2010 MBP (no Thunderbolt port) and want to get the Thunderbolt Display, but would like to use the USB ports on the back of the display.

Is there a way to get it connected?

I don't want to get a whole new $2000+ MBP for just a new Thunderbolt port.

I don't believe there is a solution for you. You can go with the cinema display which is still being sold by apple. See some of my other posts on why the cinema display is preferred in some cases, even when having a thunderbolt macbook. This may give you courage to go with the cinema display knowing you'll be ok in the future when you upgrade your macbook to a thunderbolt compatible one.
