How do I download and save a file in a specific folder?

Love Lion so far, but after I download a file, how do I save it in a specific folder. I used to open - say, open a PDF file in Preview, and then "save" it where I wanted. Now the process seems to be: open finder, find the folder I want, and drag the file from the download folder. Is there a better way? Once a file is open, how do I move it/save it someplace else? Thanks,

iMAC 10 1, Mac OS X (10.6.2), Intel Core 2 Duo

In your internet browser use the preferences to download your file to any folder on your Mac. To do this on Safari (which is how i do it) go to safari on the top menu bar and select "preferences" from the drop down window. Then, stay on the "General" settings tab from the menu bar. Now, go down to where it says "save downloaded files to:" and it should have your downloads folder already in that box. To change this click where it shows your downloads folder and select the only other option which is "Other" - this will bring up a new finder save window where you can set any download from Safari to any folder on your computer or connected external hard drive.

Hope that helps,

Kyle

Not to be difficult here, but that looks as if it would change the setting for where ALL files get saved, and then they would all go to the same place. Actually, Downloads isn't a bad general location, it's just that I often download things that need to go into a more organized folder. i.e. like bank statements into a bank specific folder, same with electric bills into the electric utility folder.

Well thats the way i do it so i know where its getting downloaded to, and you can go back in and change it right after its not rocket science or anything... Im guessing the real reason your having problems is because you downloaded the first version of Lion before they could get the bugs out, I always try to get at least the second or third version of a new software or OS so that all the bugs are fixed and stuff works. Just some things to consider next time...
