Mouse click events are sometimes ignored

Hello,

I've been running a fresh 10.7 installation with migrated settings and applications from my external HD for a few days now and I have encountered the following problem twice:

For some reason, the OS drops mouse click events, i. e. I click on something and nothing happens or I click and hold to drag something, release the mousebutton, but the drag continues as if I was still holding down the button. In both cases, I can resolve this state by clicking the respective mouse button again. If I had to take a guess, I'd say one third of click or release events are ignored.

My first guess was that the HID driver had some hiccups. Since I was using an external mouse, I decided to disable all multitouch gestures and see what happens. The problem returned. Disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse (Logitech M705) doesn't help and I would bet a relog does not chance anything either, although I haven't tested that yet. The only proven means to resolve this is a reboot.

If the problem appears, it is global - every application and the OS itself are affected. I have not yet found a way to reproduce this and my searches haven't turned up any similar stories either, but if anyone has experienced the same issues I hope that he or she reads these boards 🙂

On a related note: I experienced a similar issue in Snow Leopard, but then it was limited to keyboard presses and it appeared much more sporadic. Could be related.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Does anyone have ideas how to prevent this from happening?

I'm having the exact same issue, where I essentially have to double click to get a single click action any time I switch applications, and sometimes after a short pause in the current active app. I've also found that using the keyboard and then switching back to the trackpad will cause the same "missed first click" behavior.

Definitely getting frustrating. For example, while replying to this post, I clicked "Reply", clicked into the text area, began typing, and then reached for the "Add Reply" button. The first click didn't register at all, so i came back to add this text 🙂. I'm sure I'll have to click twice to actually post this.

Having the same problem here. I find that hitting escape and clicking in the same window originally clicked before drag unlocks the behavior but does not keep it from happening again. So far only restarting helps...temporarily at least. Occurs a few times a day...

At first I thought it was because of AutoCAD LT since it started at about the same time I installed, but with others having similar problems seems more a Lion problem.

After reboot put the computer in sleep mode then wake up the system. The mouse not letting go of the icons will be corrected until you restart your system. Then just put computer to sleep and wake each time you restart the system and it will correct itself. That's the only way I have found to stop the mouse curser from "holding on" to the icon.
