Autocorrect in lion can't be disabled

I disabled it in the language settings in system preferences, but it keeps autocorrecting me on websites and apps. It is really annoying because I use a lot of slang online in forums/chats. I also use a lot of shorthand for notetaking, and it keeps correcting it. Why didn't the system prefs thing fix this?
