Many folks get pirated apps without realizing it. They download a Apple "trail" app from a non-Apple web source and don't realize that it's a pirated app, etc.

Wow 'Dah-Veed!' you have a seriously pretentious and arrogant attitude to people! I'm sure they appreciate your help but woah! Take a chill pill or something. I too have an app showing Angry Birds in MAS update but don't have or ever had played Angry Birds on my Mac.Nor do I have pirated apps. Using the FAF app you suggested shows no MAS receipts so I suggest this may be some crazy bug that is occuring from somewhere. I'm glad I found this page but was amazed by your 'Assumptions!' Anyway thanks for your help. I will have to find another way of finding the solution to this and I will post here if I do. I don't want to insult you and maybe it's a language thing and you just sound arrogant in English! Maybe I would if I was writing in Spanish! Or Russian as per the e-mail of this mysterious app. Mine doesn't have a Russian account name however just shows an update for something I don't have, apart from a purchased Angry Birds .ipa in iTunes. Purchased from Apple! Not the Russian pirates!

It is common practice for a lot of cracker groups to take a trial version, and crack it so it is no longer a trial (In my day we used hex editors for this kind of thing).

So please be aware of this all. If you get a trial from a non-official site, then you can expect what you get.

Time, and time, and time again when a student has brought me their computer with this angry birds issue, the first thing I do is look for FCP. And trallalah...... guess what?

I have seen reports of reindexing making this go away, so I'm not going to say it's 100% always unlegit, but I do know that when people get CAUGHT, there has to be a an excuse somewhere to save face (wink). So I also can't say if there is a legit reason that causes this. Though usualy when people get caught on these forums, they just disapear and don't even have enough face to close their own thread.

Anyhow, I've seen many cases where someone else installed the cracked FCP, and the computer owner was totally unaware. So.... having it installed doesn't neccesarily mean guilt.

It's you making assumptions Red, you don't have the issue described by the OP in this year and a half old thread. So it's also silly to think the proven method of solving the OP's issue would be the answer to your different issue.

I think more the point is you wanted to get into it with someone. It's time to move along, this thread isn't about what you state is your problem.

so, let me make it simple

the _MASReceipt you guys looking for most likely a crack for Apple Final Cut Pro X, i do some research on it

the link for "Find Any File" that Dahveed gave is actually working, but you need to see all the "suspected" apps,

click "app_name" then click "Contents" then double click "_MASReceipt", you'll see a file called "receipt"

right click to open "receipt" with text editor, the you'll find " com.rovio.mac.AngryBirds091" on it

remove the app (Final Cut Pro or Other Suspected app with com.rovio.mac.AngryBirds091 on the receipt", this should get rid the notification from the mac app store

Yeah had the same issue with an annoying angry bird update from the same email.. Followed what "MooMuir" has said and i now have no update for angry birds.

Installed final cut pro 1 hour of gettings my Retina.

Put up with the angry birds update for a week and could not stand it any longer. Cheers MooMuir!!! 🙂

I'll be man enough to admit that I did make the mistake of installing a pirated copy of FCPX. Something which I will never do again!!! For a start it is not worth the hassle not to mention simple wrong!

Anyhow I have since purchased it from the App store but not before a lot of hassle.

Your advice was the last piece in a massive jigsaw I didn't have time to do!

It is an well established fact that this Russian Apple ID only appears in a pirated app. The pirate himself has posted here in the Apple Support Communities and confessed what he did.

If a bad "_MASReceipt" folder is found, what is the procedure to get rid of or fix the issue?

• Does the complete bad "_MASReceipt" itself just get trashed?

• Does the "receipt" in that bad "_MASReceipt" get trashed?

• Does the "receipt" , in the bad "_MASReceipt" get modified?

I have this sAme "angry birds update" always poping up, yet I have no version of "angry birds" installed anywhere, nor on any device I have.

So "Dah•veed" are you saying to search for folders named "_MASReceipt"?

I did a search for "_MASReceipt" folders on my Mac Hard Drive, and (4) results

came up (using the "Find Any File" - which by the way, looks a lot like parts of the "File Buddy" app).

Here are the results:

(3) "_MASReceipt" folders came from versions of Apple GarageBand, iMovie, and iPhoto.

(1) "_MASReceipt" folder was found in a "trial" version of "Final Cut Pro X"

So do I assume the "Final Cut Pro X" version is the culprit here (with regards to the angy birds updates),

and if so, what do I do with the "Final Cut Pro X - _MASReceipt" folder? Does the folder just get trashed out, or

does the "receipt" in that same folder get trashed?

That Final Cut Pro X "trial" is a known pirated app and does not come from Apple. There are no trial versions of Mac App Store apps. The legal step is to delete FCPX from your Mac altogether. No one here is going to tell you how to further crack a pirated app so that you aren't bothered by it alerting you to false updates or to allow you to continue to illegally use it. Use a deletion app such as AppCleaner to root all of it out.

The problem I have with this thread is that I have NOT downloaded any pirated apps. In fact I have had this problem since day one of owning my mac mini. I put it together, turned it on, ran all of the updates and there it was staring me in the face. Angry Birds. My original thought was that since this was a refurb system that maybe it was just something left over from the last owner, but that couldn't be because I bought this directly from Apple. Wanna know how I fixed it? I literally just downloaded a trial version of FCPX and then deleted it.
